Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Weeping Driveshafts?

In the never-ending quest to hunt down my front end knock, I noticed a light build up of oil on the gearbox and driveshafts this afternoon. It's isolated to the driveshafts and gearbox and there's spatter on the driveshaft heatshield as well. Diagnosis?

    Hey Spraycanmansam,

I had this very same issue arise 1 week after I drove my new car off the lot. From memory, I started a thread on this some years ago "Leaking inner CV's" or something to that effect. The weeping is coming from where the inner CV boot bolts onto the flange. After 4 trips to the dealer who couldn't find anything wrong, let alone see any leaking/weeping from the inner CV, the problem was sorted after 1 phone call to VW head office. Apparently they replaced both inner CV boots plus some internal felt washer(?). Hasn't reappeared since. From the looks of it, yours seem to have flown under the radar for some time.

Hope this helps with getting it sorted.

This not your knock mate, and most inner cvs have some spatter, some inner cv boots have a breather hole in them and let a bit out now and again, thats prettym much liquid form like most, i would worry if it were thick with Cv grease, then you have an issue.
PS ive pmd you about your knock pal.
back to the "issue here" its not an issue, most have it, back to where i was at i would worry if you had thick stiff all over the place. Mostly always inner right, drivers side
