Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

When I was driving home from work today, I heard a chime coming from the dash board, like the door ajar warning, but it only went off once, no warning lights showed up , and I was cruising on the freeway, got slightly over 1/4 tank of fuel left, trip computer said I could do another 110km, so it wasn't the fuel warning... any idea what it might be? I think it happened a few days ago as well, but I didn't pay attention to it cos I was hitting boost...

also, when I put the car into reverse, there is a sound coming from the aircon area, it sounds like the aircon is adjusting temperature or outside/inside air intake, why is that? anyone?

    puzzled...

I had the chime too, thought it might have been the "fatigue warning" they have advertised but alas it turned out to be the RNS510 letting me know that it couldn't find a gps signal or that the traffic management system was not working (it never has worked)

I just had the same thing happen to me this afternoon. The missers mentioned the dinging as well. When it happened this afternoon, I noticed 'No TP' flash up on the radio. So I pressed the TP button on the stereo and it's gone. So far so good... No idea what TP is

Without stating the obvious it could be the service reminder if it's happening when you're getting into the car/starting it up

What was the outside air temp? It chimes when it drops to 4 degrees C and below.

thanks, indeed it was -4 when i drove home last night... only in Canberra... mystery solve...

what about the noise when putting the car in reverse? it sounds like the aircon unit is adjusting something?

When you go in reverse the aircon automatically goes into recycle mode so it doesn't suck in exhaust.

or that noise/chime when you put the back seats down. Are they clicked in properly.

Any yeah, the air con goes to recirc when you grab reverse.

hmm, i get a chime when I unlatch the rear seat. There's a small button behind the drivers seat, about rear seat passenger knee height, not sure if that's a swtich for the chime or not.

i reckon that little button is about disabling the internal motion sensor for the alarm. so if you keep a dog in the car, its movement inside wont set off the alarm. never played with it though.
