  • Went for a drive...

I went for a drive today alone as I am on my leave from work.

Sunny... finished waxing the car in the morning. Wife is at work..

    Let's go for a drive!!

It was an hour drive (2 hours return) from North Shore to Omaha beach north of Auckland. Driving north of Auckland is quite fun with lots of twists and hills with overtaking lanes.

Had one Audi Quattro (with low stance and nice body kit, couldn't tell which model) chasing me, but he couldn't keep up going up hill.

Had a fantastic time alone with nice music. Radar detector only went off once. But saw 3 cops with new citizen friends already.

Stopped at VW dealer on the way home and bought some G12 plus coolants. I only added water last time (around 150mL) so I will add some more of the coolants by itself tonight when the car has cooled. Was $24NZ for 1.5 litres.

Anyway here are some photos you might enjoy...

Looks like it was a nice day for a cruise......don't worry about us all slaving away at work!

It would be a brave man that would park his nice shiny car that close to any golf course I was playing on.

      Cheers

Looks great - you are lucky detectors are still legal. Ours in Aust were outlawed years ago. I've still got my old Whistler Q2000 which saved me many times.

Hahaha... fortunately no one was playing on the field! Must be all at work! [by the I almost killed myself in driving range... hit the ball.. went up and hit the roof and came straight down..!!!!]

I am bound to work over Christmas day and new years, so I am trying to make the most of it during my 2 week break.

It's been fantastic, and it's raining now outside (slightly), so missed it... whew..

My car has been Revoed to 158kw with 330-340nm. Timing 6 at the moment (which is 96ron tune, can put up higher, but want to be a little conservative).

Waiting for Whiteline RSB to be delivered this week!

then another drive to see if anything's changed.

Radar detector fortunately is legal in NZ still... saved me many times previously. I always take it on my long journeys. Have GPS which has all poll mounted cameras, so put both on and drive...

(By the way, sorry photos were hot off the camera, have not been cropped or edited, so may not look professional enough for some)

Nice 5 door Polo GTI you've got there. I tend to look wistfully at the 5 door Polo GTIs we've got on VWWatercooled - it's a shame ours only came in a 3 door, because the extra few doors make the car almost infinitely more practical and easier to load. It's even easier to put the seats down.

Do you have aftermarket globes in your headlights? They seem to be a lot whiter than the stockers.

I too had the day off work today and seeing it was a glorious sunny day, decided to give my pogo a wash n wax. Unfortunately my background scenery is nowhere as nice as insanekiwi's.

Hi Wand Weaver, funny you said that. My wife did not allow me to get a 3 door car, as we may have baby in short future, and something impractical, she does not allow....

I convinced moving from Suzuki Swift to Polo GTI by saying...
                          1) Boot is much bigger (which is)
                          2) Safer
                          3) Fuel consumption is similar (My Swift did 7.5litres / 100km, GTI 8.1 litres / 100km)
                          4) Nicer car overall with the colour I want

                          and also by not saying...
                          1) deliberately forgot to say it only comes in manual.

Brought the car home, much to surprise, what is that stick in the middle of the car!!! n:

But too late, paid for the car already....

                          //

and nice photos for your blue GTI! Awesome colour too. Would be like cop cars if we drive them side by side. Nicely cleaned, and your muffler tips have been very well polished! (mine has not been...)

My headlights were not on at the time
But my one has PIAA LEDs (mixed with white and blue LEDs) for park lights, and main lights have PIAA 7500k bulbs which shows slight pink/purple tone mixed with mainly white. Suits red car really well... (dawn / dusk)

By the way my german plates were imported from:

DIN certified German license plates. Custom made Euro plates. Authentic European license plates and German license plates designed and manufactured with your custom text and color options. Quality Aluminum with your text embossed. Our plates are imported from Germany and manufactured on German equipment in the USA.

Great service, and you can get plates really cheap... something different!!
It only cost me $95NZ for 2 plates and 2 plate holders. For our Polos, you only need one plate holder however for the back.

                            Have a look if interested!

Alas, I think you may have mixed me up for someone else - possibly Eddy (who does have a shadow blue car).

My car's actually silver - although I did clean it last weekend (including the exhaust tips)

On the subject of headlights - I could have sworn your headlights were on in the last photo. I'm not even sure if you can turn on the fogs without at least your parking lamps being on.
