Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • 100,000KM Service

    Hi Guys,

My car is coming up to it's 100,000 KM service, anyone have any idea how much this costs? It seems to be a big one. I will ring my dealer as well, just want to make sure they aren't going to quote too much.

    Thanks

    EDIT: 105,000 KM service

    105,000klm service

You'll most likely be doing the timing belt.

Expect $600 - $1000 dependant on who you go for. The timing belt will need to be done. It's all up to dealer vs independents

VW has quoted me a bit over $1100 for the service including timing belt.

If I wasn't living in buttf... nowhere I could get an independent to do the same for ~ $900 from memory

I suppose since it's a major service i'd rather go VW, I'll ring around today and report back.

Ok... Just because it's a major service doesn't mean it is outside the ability of an independent. I personally would never go to a VW dealer for any servicing work if I had access to a independent VW specialist.
I can almost certainly guarantee that a VW dealer would charge you a lot more than an independent.
You still have 5,000km before it is due, so a bit of time to ring around...

Any recommendations for independents? I just rang Camberwell and they said it's not due until 120,000KMs.... I know this isn't true because the service book says otherwise.

Have a look in the Recommended Repaires section of the forum.

And this is exactly why I wouldn't go to a stealership for servicing, they can't even put in the effort to tell you the correct servicing interval.

In no particular order, Volkspower, Volkwerke, Audvolks.
Google them, they're all Melbourne based.

I've got mine coming up in 5,000kms also, and will be doing plenty of ringing around before I book it in.

Why do you need to change your timing belt at 105k km's my Servicing Schedule indicates you should renew Toothed belt and toothed belt tensioner for camshaft drive at 120k km's for Polo. Other than that it should be a normal 15 000 km service?

I think you may need to read your service schedule again...

My stealership did it for 3 hours labour ($300) and I provided the parts which I bought from the UK and brought over. Totalled about $500 until one of the parts was 'faulty' which it wasn't, they had done the service wrong and I had to buy all of the parts over again so the entire service cost about $2000. I wouldn't go to VW just because it's a major service because chances are you'll have someone who knows absolutely nothing about VAG cars working on it.

The fault was with the water pump which they weren't replacing.
