  • What should i fix on my GTI

Hey guys , Ive got a 9n3 GTI with APR flash, oct 09 i took delivery. Its got a 160000km on it now, and i treat my cars rough =P

Ive been putting money away for a new car but cant decide what i want.. Wait for the new A class AMG , the next golf R , bmw 135i. Focus ST.. i really dont know. So for now i need to give my car a new lease of life.

Now i've serviced it from day 1 every 10k.... I have not done a timing belt yet. I just couldn't be bothered.

Last week i decided on doing some work. Ran an engine cleaner, pulled the sump off, sprayed degreaser in the engine, wiped out wat i could get to , new oil and filter.

Now i have to do a timing belt so ill order one and a water pump and do it.

The front end has a knock in it when coming on and off throttle. Im assuming i should do bushes. Is it worth doing struts and springs? I dont need anything better then standard so what should i do ?

Other then gearbox oil and the normal service stuff , What do these cars like being done?

Sell it and get something else. If you don't have any issues with the car as it is other than a knock, get a new polo for while, probably suit you well.

On the other hand,if you think the polo could be faster, handle better, look better and are willing to spend money and time on it,you are in the right place.

You haven't done a timing belt at 160,000kms?! If that thing goes it bye bye engine! I did mine 20,000km's EARLY just to make sure it was safe. I'd get onto that asap mate.

The knock will either be from excess engine movement (flogged out mounts) or shagged control arm bushes. I'd get it seen to soon either way. Your shocks shouldn't be stuff at 160k, so unless you want to lower it or put after market stuff in there, I'd put your money elsewhere. Good luck

spraying degreaser into the engine is a very bad idea even if you wipe it out. timing belt would be #1. its 60k km overdue.

Standard bushes dont last long so yours would be completely flogged. Aside from that just change all the filters and fluids. Hows the clutch?

60k past timing belt because you can't be bothered... Let us know the VIN so we can steer clear of the car...

Spraying Degreaser and cleaning out the motor was suggested to me by an old school VW mechanic... ( my choice to do this ) The gunk that came out on the cloth and the pickup was yuk.

I bought the Belt kit and water pump today .. so will do on the weekend.

Ordered a bushes kit and lower engine mount.

                Clutch is A ok

New oil filter/ fuel filter / plugs /air filter ,sitting here ready to go.

AS for the Vin , I highly doubt anyone on here will buy a polo GTI with 200km (by the time i sell it) on it.

I dont plan to get more then 6k for a trade.
