  • Stock rubber dogbone mount bush

    Hi folks

Is there anyone in Sydney with a stock dogbone mount (rubber) bush that they don't need? I've swapped mine for the PU one, yes the shift quality has noticeably improved (wasn't bad to begin with), yes the clutch take up point does feel more distinct but it's also true the car does vibrate a fair bit more at idle especially with the a/c on - can't stand that any more, lesson learned.

As I'm contemplating selling the car later this year it'd probably make sense to return that to stock so it won't scare the punters off (unless they're enthusiasts like you are )

    So, just wondering if:

    a) does anyone have a stock bush lying around that you can donate/sell me for a small sum, or

    b) does anyone want a swap for a small sum (to me of course) - we'll probably need to be somewhere with the right tools to fit it though

    cheers

If you can't find one to swap you can order the complete arm with bush from VW for ~$80.

Which bush did you upgrade to?
I put the Superpro 70Strength in mine and only notice a slight increase in cabin vibration when the air/con is on.
It was only a $70 part IIRC.

Really? I thought you had gone more hard core and upgraded to the VibraTechnics complete replacement arm.

As for swapping the torque arms, the only tools needed are a T20 torx bit (and driver) and a 16mm socket, driver & short extension. The hardest part is getting under the car to access the arm.

You should try a diesel for vibrations with the polyureathane bush

I had an APR which from what I remember was around the 90 shore mark. If I was going to go back to a PU bush Id go for the Superpro as it's softer. Kaanage, I didn't mind the bush but the missus wasn't too happy with and she drives it most of the time for work I've replaced it with the stock arm for the time being. After I find where the knocks in my front end are coming from I'll look into it again.

I'd be careful about knocks coming from your front end.....I had one on saturday night that turned out to be a shot wheel bearing....it wasn't an enjoyable noise!!!

That's good to know, thanks. Like Roodosutaa I'm changing back from the APR to the stock mount because it's too harsh.

Have you checked your rear control arm bushes and sway bar drop links? Common cause of knocking.

I'm surprised that people are finding the APR mount harsh... Honestly, I can't feel it. I have had it in for 100,000 km now.

You got an APR mount, ive had a few Polos that were meant to have one and once the were flogged turned out to be a Superpro bush. i refitted with a Super Pro mind you , i like their products. Was taken aback to see how bad the last 2 ive done were, they were (APR) superpro bushes.

I only feel a slight vibration when the AC is on... Nothing that bothers me though.

By bad Jimmy, do you mean the recent bushes were much harder than the earlier ones (ie not 70 shore as they're supposed to be)?

Well, I don't know how to check the shore of mine, but it's an APR one (bought from European Autotech) that looks exactly like Superpro (colour, design). I believe it is a Superpro one, just sold as APR. Might be the source of some confusion?

Anyway, I've just ordered an entire new 'dogbone' wishbone/bracket/front-bush/rear-bush/stretch bolts from VW, about $105 all up.

And those spacers for the subframe too, which are $10 each (off-topic but I thought might be interesting for anyone without them)

I definitley know that when I bought my APR bush it had a piece of paper inside the packet branded APR and listing it as the 'Race' version bush. I can't remember if it was 85 or 90 shore, but definitely not 70. I think the Superpro 70 shore would be >much< better.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I'm pretty sure my knocks are coming from stretched subframe bolts, or the strut tops. I've checked the droplinks and I have to stop being slack and get back onto Jmac to have the Cupra bushes fitted.

I have the 'new' stock front-end rear lower control arm bushes (vented not solid, but 4 ribs instead of 2) as well as new strut top bearings and new front ARB/sway links and the car still knocks every now and then during driving, usually cornering. I'm hoping the subframe spacer plates will stop it.
