Polo Dogbone Mount.

To explain my oh so subtle point: the Polo gear change linkage is a cable system, not a directly connected linkage. Therefore, reducing engine mount movement with a stiffer dog bone mount insert will not effect the gearchange 'feel'. This cable gearchange mechanism is the reason why the Pog doesn't take to flat shifting very well -- there's too much give to make the necessary quick changes.
If you are suffering gearchange issues -- grinds, graunches or whatever -- and you are changing gears properly, then I'd suggest a trip to the dealer is in order, especially as others have reported problems resulting in g/b replacements.2015 White German SUV

Well the proof is in the pudding (both eddy myself and GT3 can tell the difference) and the fact that Guy agrees as we chatted about it when i went back to give back the test dogbone mount kinda tells me that we arent feeling something that isnt there.

Bumped into Ezzy yesterday and he too confirmed a big improvement. If you go back to my original comments, I actually said that I noticed an improvement in gear 'selections' not 'changes'. This was particularly noticable when stationary, ie selecting reverse or 1st gear. The box feels more tighter, more solid to use. Not sure how the new mount induces that but it somehow does. I can't comment beyond that, ie how it improves the transfer of power, and I'm not sure whether it will limit or reduce engine movement either.

I had the crunch between 2nd and 3rd and it went away after a little time.Originally posted by GT3 View PostI'm a bit surprised by how many pog dudes are coping crunches b/n gears
I've never encountered it, and if I did I wouldn't tolerate it for long. It may be bc I've got the vibe for gear changes and I'm down with the "mass to energy transformation in the space-time continuum"
I'm just thinking if this will help out on the track???

Crunching
In regards to the crunching my Polo crunches EVERYTIME when changing from 1st to 2nd above 2500rpm.
I had the problem looked at by Volkswagen. They wont be replacing the gearbox but they are rebuilding certain parts. The parts have arrived from Germany and the car is booked in for the 21st to have it all done.
Fingers crossed it fixes the problem. I will provide an update once it is doneCurrent - MY12 MK6 GTI, CW, Detriots, dark tint, APR Stage 1, blacked out grille, LED tails, Euro plates, suspension "tweaked", VCDS tweaks

Make a point about them cleaning out all the metal filings off the magnetic filter in your box too because there will be a lot.Originally posted by Koz View Post.....The parts have arrived from Germany and the car is booked in for the 21st to have it all done.

Most gearboxes have a magnet that sits in the oil somewhere, so when you shave metal off your gears the little bits of metal stick to the magnet rather than crunching through the teeth of the gears.sigpicOriginally posted by KaiAnd then dont forget the most important mod for gays.

interesting and so tempted mod. if not only from my oh-so-big-spending-audio-installation......
i got a question regarding the gearbox which i hope you guys can help, as you are more tech minded then I..
I used to get the crunching from 2nd to 3rd, but it kinda gone away now, or that i just havn't shifted at higher revs, and faster (fuel cost! =(...) anway, lately, i have been finding while changing gear, the gear would get stuck, or hard to get into the slot, or it would get stuck halfway, and sometimes crunches the gear...
Is this a major problem? what can causes it??

I don't know what causes it but the end result is your polo leaves on the back of a tow truck and VW claim there is nothing wrong with the gearbox.Originally posted by Adam View Post

Hoyhoy.
I find this statement fairly contradictive.
PS. No1. Especailly this part,,,(there's too much give to make the necessary quick changes.)
PS. No2.,,,(stiffer dog bone mount insert [[[ will not effect ]]] the gearchange 'feel')
PS. No3.,,, What about not putting extra pressure on the cable.Last edited by Eddy; 11-11-2007, 09:56 PM.Hooroo.

Or you drive (while it's drivable) to a decent dealer and they replace the gearbox no charge.Originally posted by Ben_GTI View PostI don't know what causes it but the end result is your polo leaves on the back of a tow truck and VW claim there is nothing wrong with the gearbox.
Could be a number of things causing it, but it does seem there are a hell of a lot of issues with these gearboxes. I'd say somewhere along the assembly line, someone got lazy or VW have just opted to save money and build it with second rate parts. Having said that, I have had no issues with my gearbox at all, in fact it feels heaps more solid than my previous car's (Peugeot 206 GTi180).
I like the sound of this mount, but since I like the gearbox how it is and I don't track the car regularly, I have no real need. Plus, I want to flash the ECU and/or do suspension first.
