Non GTI polo's

Hi Im new to the forum and have done some reading of posts and was wondering if there were many members with non GTI polo's?
We have a 2000 model polo which I think is a 6n2 model.
Does any one else have one of these?
The only mods so far are 14 inch wheels which we put on when it was new and recently I have installed a remote for the central locking.
This saturday its getting braided brake lines front and back and probably a set of ferrodo pads as well . The brakes have allways been squishy even from new.
Next its probably getting new suspension as the original is now really really soft.
Has any one done or heard of good suspension for this model Polo?

Hi mate,

Because of the differences in driving habits (No one here will tolerate small engines) you'll find NA polos (esp older ones) were taken alot more seriously overseas - I bet all the bigger european aftermarket tuning companies will carry lines for your polo. I think they sold your polo in the UK with a 1.2L engine

And you can get Golfs with 1.4 motors overseas too.

Well got to the brake place nice and early today.
They had the ferrodos ready
They had the stainless braided line
only problem was they had the wrong banjo fittings to go on the braided line
the supplier sent Audi ones instead of Polo ones
really p****** off
So in the end nothing was done. Drove home really anoyed
They found out yesterday afternoon but instead of ringing waited till I got there to tell me
Even worse we are busy next weekend so it will be at least 2 weeks before I can take it back

Got the braided brake lines done a few weeks ago.
Only the fronts at the moment as the backs are so short they didnt think it would make a big difference so suggested we try it as it is.
They went to fit the ferrodo pads but when they looked at the VW pads they were amazed at how good the pad material was. In the end they didnt fit the ferrodos as the VW pads were of such a good material.
Having the front lines done makes a big difference. The pedal is a bit firmer but the big difference is the car pulls up so much better. For the first few weeks we kept pulling up to roundabouts 2 to 3 metres short!
Under normal braking the firmness of the pedal is nicely noticable but not drastically. where you really notice the firmness in the pedal though is under hard or emergency braking. Then instead of feeling like a big sponge it feels like the brake pedal is connected to the brakes by steel and you can really feel what the fronts are doing.
We have had the car since new and had the brakes serviced and bleed by good people and they have never felt this good.
Since the backs lines are so cheap to do we are going to have them done anyway. being so short we dont expect a big difference but its definatly worth trying

mods so far

So the mods so far are
1- 14 inch wheels and lower profile tyres. These were bought as an option when we bought it
2 Remote central locking
3-chrome wolfsburg door knobs ( yeah wanky I know but the dog chewed the originals off!
4- rewired and relayed front head lights and fitted 90/60 bulbs. This made a huge difference. The original light output was terrible. Fine in the city but we live near Windsor and on country roads at night it was awful.

Next is the sony head unit and JL speakers we got tonight. The head unit takes a 2 gig memory stick and it can also directly control an ipod. Looking forward to fitting this as have wanted to be able to use a memory stick for ages

After that the back brake lines are going to be replaced with braided.
Then its the suspensions turn. Dont really want to lower it as compared to 4wd's its so low allready! But want to fit some really really good shocks.
Then maybe depending on how the money tree is might look at the exhaust and engine.

Very interesting to see your experiences with the brake lines 425i! I'm starting to think if this is something I could do to my own GTI; wouldn't surprise me if the brake setup was the same internally, they certainly feel very soft.
