Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • A squishy thump when changing from accelerate to power off.

07 Polo 93n, just under 90 thou K on it. The noise is only audible going from fairly hard acceleration to power-off (or vice versa) fairly abruptly. Maybe a tenth or a twentieth of a second after the accelerator input, and seems to correspond to the engine/drivetrain reacting to the power change.

    Dogbone mount?

I'll be getting a service (90 000) done soonish. Can it wait til then?
Is there a superior after-market dogbone mount I should be looking to install at that time? (If that's what it is).

    Thanks, in advance.

Yeah mate, sounds like a busted dog bone mount. Also give the control arm bushes a look too. If you haven't changed them, they will be on their way out very soon.

Thanks Blitzen. Is it likely this can wait a month or so? Any superior mounts than standard you'd recommend? Is it hard to get at?

        Like this thread? http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...tle-63539.html

I still haven't found the cause but 2 track days later and it hasn't gotten any worse

Yeah, a bit like that. I found and browsed that thread a bit when it happened.
I think I'll let my mechanic make a diagnosis when it's time, but I'm suspecting the dogbone, or maybe other engine mounts. Hope it's not anything internal.
It's not getting any worse. I don't thrash or race the car, and it otherwise seems ok.

Id agree with Blitzen, worn control arm bushes are pretty common, and look into the dog mount. The new genuine control arm bushes have changed in design over the years which have some more support in them similar to golf bushes to prevent premature wear.
