Hi Guys,
been viewing the forums here for some time and decided to join up, i hope to get some tutorials organised to post up soon.

i have a 2006 Polo GTI, its a great little car, i traded from a 2005 WRX and very happy with my purchase. Another 2 years on lease, but plan to do some basic mods..........

At present i am looking at a REVO upgrade as, as far as i can tell this is similar to the Ecutek i had on my WRX. ie. no chip upgrade. I'm not keen on swapping chips becuase of the lease factor. Anyone here have one and happy with it?

Also looking to upgrade the factory backbox to be a bit beefier, on my WRX i had a Hi-Tech System that was quiet but beefy when i wanted it to be. Does anyone know if any company makes just the backbox?

The other area i miss is the grip i had in the WRX, the conti's seemed ok until they wore a bit, after 10,000 i'm up for a new front set i'm looking to upgrade my tyres to either Yokohama S or C drive, i had the C on my WRX and they were a great Tyre. Anyone got these? the C appeals becuase of the quietness.

don't go with revo...i know its cheaper and stuff to get a pysical chip...get an apr upgrade...they are far far far far better...

Thanks, i was under the impression that the APR was a chip upgrade and the REVO a software change? I'm confused

The apr is a software reflash...

so it gets rid off all the bugs and flat spots in the car..and gets rid of lag too! its amazing the difference...
you can get a 6 hour trial if you want...6 hours of drive time free...

afaik all the major tuners flash the ecu (inc. revo, apr and giac) I havent actually heard of a polo with a physical chip yet.

No one opens up ECUs except if they contain old technology that cannot be flashed through the OBD port.

I have REVO on mine.

First of all.

1) REVO has been around for long time with good reputations. Go to www.revotechnik.com and read about it

2) REVO is flash based. Not cheap physical ECU swap or piggy back.

Currently as far as I know, REVO has highest output (on usual chip) then APR then GIAC. REVO firmware I have is from July 07 and is the newest. On currently 6 boost / 5 on timing (conservative with 98 octane) / and I can't remember another setting but it's on 6 as well.

I am sure both APR and REVO all good. Timbo and I have REVO and rest of them APR.

I think Timbo got 123kw at wheels after chipping / I have it's between 123-125kw usually at wheels with chip only.

I expect the torque to be around 330nm with REVO.

They all have pros and cons.

I got REVO because it was close from home, product was at good price (I got a special deal) and also the dealer was nice enough to check my car regularly with VAGCOM.

For exhaust muffler changing, Remus makes some nice sounding mufflers. Whole system is good, but if you just want a nice tone, I am sure it can be done quite cheap. Miltek system will enable you to go to Stage 2 on REVO (along with intake mod), but Miltek is quite expensive with mixed reviews.

If you want pure power, downpipe upgrade is the way to go which you probably will get another 10-15kw at wheel power.

You will probably feel less grip with tyres + FWD setup compared to AWD on Subarus. But sure it's cheaper to run isn' it? Fuel consumption is pretty good on our Polos.

I wouldn't say reflash will get rid of all the flat spots and lags etc. If you drive under 2500rpm, ur car will behave as it was stock, but if you put your foot down, you will know the difference straight away....

let's avoid the 'this chip flash is better than that one' banter - research them and make up your own mind, and be weiry of those who have a vested interest in what they recommend and who they recommend you to.

I have only heard of one example of two guys who tried all 3 (giac, apr and revo) before buying. Their conclusion was giac ran a more aggressive boost setting, revo and apr were similar, apr was the smoothest). Depending on your driving style and what appeals to you the most, some will suit you more than others.

I got APR done last week and i really think that is how the car should have come stock. Sounds better, Drives better and is very responsive to overtaking grandmas should the need arise

From reading here, all the chips do similar things and everyone seems happy with the outcomes they get.

Hi Guys, thanks for the info, as i live on the north coast NSW i guess i would need to travel to Sydney, i travel down that way twice a month so i could give both a go with the trial.
