Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I've seen this mentioned in the 'What do you love about your Polo' thread, but the info there is quite scarce.

As it's a handy feature to have I'd like to enable it on the Polo.

Would anyone here be able to offer some advise on specifically what is required?

Is the process detailed here accurate?
Dieselpower forum :: Zobrazit tma - Windows roll up with VDS-PRO

Where can one obtain the necessary OBD11 cable and VDS-pro software? Has anyone got this working over USB, or should I try to source an older serial cable?

    Sorry for the zillion questions.

Which car is this for? Your username says 118TSI but you've posted in the Polo forum.

On the MK6 Golf this should already be enabled. No idea about the Polo.

Information on the cable/software 9as well as other uses for it) is here:

I really don't think you can do this on a 9N3 Polo - The most I've been able to do in VCDS is turn off the seatbelt warning lights, disable 'anti-hijack' and make the car beep when you lock/unlock the cars. I don't think the ECU in the polo is that modern, so the new feature from the new VW's won't work.

But if anyone knows how using VCDS please post because I want to add this to my polo too!

You could also send a message to RossTech asking about this - they're a good source of info

Updated my signature to avoid confusion. This most definitely is enabled by default on the Golf.

I've read in multiple locations that it can also be enabled on the 9N Polo, but rather than via VCDS it's done with VDS-Pro using an obd2 serial cable such as this.

Might be the case, from the screenies it just looks like a very basic version of VCDS without all the extra help and labels to make things easier. VCDS works with older VW's and Audi's as well, as long as you get the more expensive HEX-USB version (and will also work with your Golf).

While the VCDS will work with the 9N I don't think it is capable of changing this setting which requires an update of the EEPROM.

It appears that RossTech intentionally don't allow updating the EEPROM for fear of busting it in the process as per this thread.

Wish it did, would have made the decision much easier. I've already coded the Golf for the RNS510, Bluetooth Module, rain sensing window close and updated the comfort indicators to 4 flashes using the VCDS and cable of a former colleague.

Would a KVW100 be compatible with a 9N3? It did the trick on my Mk IV.

Yeah Geoff, I believe that would also do the job. From what I have read going down that route would lock you out from making any further changes, and I think it's a more costly option as well.

As far as I am aware, it doesn't work.

There is an interface from memory for this function which you have to add, ages ago im sure Fusion was getting access to them. Bit of hassle for minor result really.
