Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Induction Noise

To those who have put on the bigger SEAT intake hose from vagparts.com have you noticed an big difference in induction noise if any after installation?

Also if you have, are you pairing the hose with an aftermarket panel filter or stock filter?

I dont think there is any extra noise with the intake, maybe a bit more sucking at idle but nothing i noticed in general driving. I have a stock filter.

You can hear a bit of sucking but the best noise is the louder spooling of the turbo

Get a pod filter for noise!

          Kai,

I would love to go down the pod route, but that would mean id have to get a new smaller battery for it to fit and would be alot of extra expense.

You'd really need a box to enclose the pod in to get the most out of it as well. Otherwise it would just be sucking in the hot air from the engine bay.

You dont need a new battery to get a pod filter.

You need your own brain and 50 dollars.

Only needs to be secured in QLD.

                  Boxed and secured in NSW.

yeah, ive read you say that before... I would like to see it in writing from qld transport. But as most ppl who mod cars (like yourself) if they want to get you they can pick anything and having a pod filter is an obvious one to pick as its plain to see. Just my 2c.

Also as far as i know there have been tests showing pods arent the most effective way of getting more air to your engine, although they are generally the cheapest.

Even if i was wrong. They arnt going to defect a vw polo anyways. Its not a hoon car.

How arnt they the best way of getting air to your engine? Its bassicly no restriction. Mines set up so it gets a cold feed from the outside. And id put money on it to be the same as the bmc cda. Ive driven with all 3 mods. Seat intake. BMC CDA. and Kai's Dodgy Mechanics Pod Filter setup.

Once you hear the noise of the car with the pod. You wont turn back

Yeah mate thats cool. I understand its your personal choice but im just putting it out there for others to think about before they jump head on in. And as for not being defected, i have been in the situation where i was pulled up along with 50+ other cars and all were gone over with a fine tooth comb.
Like i said it comes down to personal choice. Just be informed when you make them.

Cheers mate, I think we need to dispell any rumours that Pod Filters are "bad". If it is shielded away from heat and has a cold air duct directing cool air straight to it.. i cant see why its bad at all.. and as for defecting... well.... i dunno.. ive never had any trouble at all... but then again i dont drive like an "absolute" hoon, so i dont draw to much attention... and i am a recon scout in the army.. so i can see a cop car from a mile away ;P
