and to give you an idea of what is compatiable for a 9N Polo GTI,

The H&R suspension packages are :
Sports Lowering Spring Kit for £121.
Sports Cup Kit 40mm Front lowering and 35mm rear lowering with Uprated shocks and springs for £480.
Coilover height adjustable set up are £713.These must be used with H&R anti roll bars to allow for correct levels of clearance.

Eibach do for this model is a Lowering Sports Spring Kit, it is £142

      Cheers,
Are you sure those prices are for the GTI? I followed the link and the Eibachs quoted were for the 9N - 1.2, 1.4, 1.4 FSI, 1.4 TDI, 1.9 SDI, 1.9 TDI ... but nowhere did I see 1.8T GTI.

When I first visited their site I too could not find any information regarding the 9N GTI, but after a few friendly emails and clarification that our model is the Polo GTI 20V 1.8T I was given the above suspension component list, which was clarified by H&R and Eibach, and have been assured they are compatible.

        Cheers,

Mate, you've pulled a thread back from beyond the grave here. Most of the guys that posted in haven't been here in years.

I have H&R on my Polo, which there's picture of in my build thread.

To give you an idea of the difference in stiffness, I'd contacted H&R and eibach and they said that their rear spring rates were 27N/mm and 23.5N/mm respectively - So eibachs on paper not likely to be as harsh as the H&R's but you have to take into consideration how much 'progressiveness' is built into the initial travel of each of the springs too.
In kit form, most would agree that the bilstein B8 monotube damper ( as part of the eibach B12 kit) is superior to H&R's own damper used in their kit plus its locally rebuildable.

H&R's were not harsh, coupled with stock shocks, the shocks died fairly quickly and the ride was a bit bouncy (in a big slow bounce way on fun roads).

I have driven a few quick Polo's obviously and the one that stands out for me at the moment is Jasn78s old one. That had a Bilstein kit.

The cars with cheap coilovers, haven't been as nice as my cheapo set up.

Troy's, I didn't drive but seems pretty comfortable around inner Melbourne, so not sure what that would be like daily on a wider variety of roads. He is on KWs.

I've always been happy with my combo on the daily car of bilstein struts and H&R springs. Been good on the street and track.
