  • Torque Steer

I would be interested in reading comments about the Gti’s power delivery once they have been chipped, how much of a factor, if any, is torque steer?

    Cheers,

I am surprised how well a chipped car avoids torque steer considering how much torque it does have. On smooth roads its not too much of an issue, the car tracks straight under full throttle. However, sink the right foot on a bumpy or heavily cambered bit of road and its better to hold on with two hands, the car likes to follow the ridges.

Do you feel that this is directly related to the increase in torgue resulting in torque steer or just the tendancies of a FF vehicle?

a bit of both, im sure the tug wouldnt be as noticable without the chip, but then again, i wouldnt be accelerating anywhere near as quickly, i think it is pretty much inescapable in a turbo fwd car (unless you want torque/fun limiting systems ala MPS 3). A bit of throttle discipline goes a long way.

I've found the GTI has very little torque steer, so far (not chipped yet), had more of an issue with it in the MPS3 when I test drove that, tho it may have been road related, becasue I copped it bad, and most people say the MPS3 is wel set up.
I have my RED , 3DR MKV GTI with leather in manual and I love it!

Have driven the 3MPS as well. Well balanced FWD car considering you get hit with 380nm of torque all delivered at 3000rpm. I'm sure if you took the Polo GTI to stage III or III+ it would torque steer a little as well. Anyone going to prove me right??? Guy????

Torque steer only happens when you get traction!

The electric power steer in the polo (weighted) makes it pretty easy to hold the steering wheel straight - i suppose it's one of those things you get used to.

When I get my chip from Guy I will let you know how this affects it but I tend to agree with Guy. Easy to control, try it out and dump the clutch at moderate RPM and see for yourself (do not do this often as it is detrimental to your cars running gear). I have to agree with other guys having had a MPS3 for a while myself. It has HUGE torque steer but is a trait of the power delivery in most high power Jap cars. Euro cars seem to have the emphasis on smoothing things out and creating an all over driving experience rather than just throw you back in the seat power of the MPS3.

                I'll keep my Pogo thanks
