Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Engine chip question

    Hello,

I stumbled upon this clip on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9427V7eSWGQ with a chip from APR or Oettinger would this be a fair representation of how the vehicle would accerlate?

Secondly what are memebers experience with the stock clutch? t it is starting to slip and a replacement is in order? or the factory clutch is sufficent under these new power levels?

    Cheers,

Well, imo a chipped car will accelerate faster/more brutally than that, or that guy diddnt have his foot down all the way, you will get wheelspin from a clean launch at about 4500rpm with the apr. This could also have to with the fact that the polo cup has a fair bit less torque than the oettinger/apr chipped polos making maintianing traction easier.

As far is the stock clutch is concerned, it can be hard to avoid slip on a rapid launch, a bit more grip there qouldnt go astray, however mine still seems fine.

That Car was a Polo GTI Cup. SO it has 125kw from memory. Chipped cars have around 150kw. Not sure on the torque figures though.
