  • Stud conversion to polo gti

Hey ive recently bought a polo gti and it has some gutter rash. At the same time my mate is selling his evo 8 rims which are mint with brand new tyres for very cheap.
I was just wondering if anyone has converted from 5x100- 5x 114.3?

    Thanks, Ben.

    Hey mate,

I think you'll end up spending heaps on the conversion therefore the savings you made on the wheels wont mean much at all.

Most people run adapters (not exactly legal though) so I rekon either run those or save and get a set of rims that are the right PCD

It will be a difficult fit. Evos run lowish offsets. And you need to account for the adapter thicknesses. Which at minimum is 15-20mm.

      5x100 sucks!

Well ive decided to save myself some work and keep this stud pattern, now looking at wheels, id like some cheap steelies with some dish i like the style the euro kids have going on. Not too familiar With these having had corollas before.
What are my options for cheap wheels that give good stance, what offsets do i need? Id like to run something that isnt too far off of standard wheel size but with a deeper offset.

yes you could keep the standard wheel width and find something with a slightly more agressive offset, but if your going to run them flush or poking itll look stupid with a 165 over a 6 sitting miles out from behind.
Id go something a bit of both, more width and more offset. check out golfman's, van's (cant think of user name...) or vwthunder's polo, those guys are killing it with fitments. Otherwise there is guys like smead, bflat, MissVuks, and blitzen who have slightly wider wheels, similar to stock offsets (some are a little more aggressive) but pull off more 'legal' fitments with a bit of flare, enough to look awesome, but avoid too many problems from the police/insurance.

one thing to think about first would be how much you are going to lower the car (if your going to at all). this will narrow it down.

and as to your original post... as the other guys have said, adapters are your best option, but this means you have to be a bit more careful with widths and offsets.
also from memory evos run 8.5s and 9s... no good upfront on a polo

I run a 18x8, +35 offset wheel on my car. This is flush at the rear, and sits about 2mm in at the front.

I'm fairly certain 8s are about the widest you can go up front

Yeah no plans to lower it atm but as usual i think that will change, i bought my other car as a plain old ke20 with plans to just daily it. Now it has 14x8.5 -13 watanabes, 3tgeu conversion flipped and stiffened springs coilies camber tops. Haha almost a te27 now.

But yeah i like adv7.1 style of wheels, they seem hard to find though. Think ill go for 17x 7.5 ish. I also like bbs rs but these also seem hard to find in anything over 15 inch. . I think my budget on rims ill set at 900-1200 big ones. What price would i be looking at for a mid level coilover upgrade?

Well my Coilies are at the lower end of the scale and were $430 landed from the UK. Jom and Hot tuning sourced locally will set you back $700 - $1000. Bank on about $1500 - $2500 to get something mid level

Do you run 225 wide tyres? I made a post in the tyre thread as well, but i'm looking at 225 wide up front and am worried about the strut clearance without spacers. My wheels are ET38.

I had heard stories of shoddy quality wheels from Rota so i wouldn't go near them but it could all be internet hear-say.

Yeah ive looked into them heaps, any wheel that you smash into a gutter sideways at 100 k's has a good chance of failing. My mate has rota grids on his evo 8 MR. He gives them hell and their holding up well.

                            17x7.5 would be the go?

if you are keeping it stock height id imagine so... why not try and get some wheels off a newer model polo? I believe they are 5x100 still, and would be a good OEM+ move.
