That you paid nothing last time is simply the 'flight or fright' instinct that is programmed into any rational person so that responds whenever you get within a close proximity of a 'Authorised Service Centre'. My research into this leads to the scent of cheap cologne has contributed widely to this phenomenon. It is not just a VW related one either, it works across most European marques. Test it for yourself.

Go put air evenly in all your tyres, then add 6psi. Very old service centre trick taught to me by my mechanic brother.Originally posted by flat6 View PostSomething that has always baffled me is how the hell does the dealer make the car feel so tight when you get it back, what do they do?
Is there this magical bolt they tighten up that does this lol?2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

So a mixture of cheap cologne and tire air pressure creates a placebo of tightness caused by the sphincter adapting to the sudden loss of hard earned moneys.. causing the "tight arse" effect to kick in giving you some scene of perceived value..
Makes perfect sense lol!2016 Golf R, APR Stage 1

I do everything on my 9n3 TDI Polo myself, including the timing belt and water pump. But I'm keeping the car forever, so I dont care about having a stamped bookVW: it aint just a car, its a way of life

I have since bought a Peugoet 308 and found their translation of the word service is much more accurate than the VW translation. Must be no direct translation of the word service in to German, it gets misunderstood and they think you are going to the "geschraubt" centre.Originally posted by flat6 View PostSo a mixture of cheap cologne and tire air pressure creates a placebo of tightness caused by the sphincter adapting to the sudden loss of hard earned moneys.. causing the "tight arse" effect to kick in giving you some scene of perceived value..

Funny you find that Pug are better than VW.Originally posted by mikinoz View PostI have since bought a Peugoet 308 and found their translation of the word service is much more accurate than the VW translation. My Mrs Pug 207 GTi and the dealer was an incredible pain for the first year we took it there. They couldn't find the spare key when we first picked it up, which was then a nightmare of waiting for them to get a key blank, etc and then getting it back there to get it set-up - scary 2 months when I was sure she would lose her only key, or lock them in the car ! They'd installed weathershields and damaged the surrounding rubbers while doing it - they replaced the window rubbers at the 1000km service. Only had a 1/4 tank of fuel when first delivered. Every service we had to check the book as they never bothered to stamp it. A/C was dodgey and wouldn't cool after 3 months, they then proceeded to re-gas it every 3 months until after 3 visits I contacted Peugeot head office with my complaints and they then replaced the whole system - pipes, compressors, etc. After that first year it has not been back to Peugeot but been to an independent with no problems.

It all comes down to the dealer at that point. I am unable to complain, hence my comments. Had a great buying experience and service at a different dealer and keep getting things sorted to my satisfaction. Oh, and the 308 timing belt in a diesel is at 200,000km, so stick that on the cost of ownership spreadsheet compared to a VW TDI.Originally posted by DeanB View PostFunny you find that Pug are better than VW.
