Don't worry I know plenty of people who have found the same thing.

I've heard most of the time its just the outer edge of the paint on the caliper that is going.

My brother cooked the brakes in his broken ass BMW not long ago..... sucks when you can't go as fast as the car infront around the corners.

Very interesting thread - I can certainly see the humerous side of it, and it contains some useful information as well.

Thought I might plug that I got a small fire extuingisher that I put in the left corner of the boot. Hopefully I won't have any need for it myself, but you never know when you'd come across someone in the need - could end up saving them a lot of money, or even more. (Note to self: Should probably look for some fire retardant gloves as well to stash in the same spot. Would make assisting in serious cases a whole lot easier).

Yeah Pomme - don't take the comments personally - everyone has done what others may perceive as 'silly' things in cars - the stories I could tell..................

hang on, those comments weren't simply aimed at having a go at pomme. it was about saying that sort of activity (on a public forum) should be discouraged rather than endorsed. now that pomme has said his bit, everyone's comments should be put into perspective also.

Sorry but I still am not quite sure why anyone would want to do that purposely to a car.
I knew a guy years ago with a new XU1 torana that got on the turbs one night with his mates. They had a bet that if he dropped a stone into one of the carbies, it would fly out the exhaust! He lost!!! And warranty wouldnt cover it!

Re deleting the thread, well I find value in knowing that using brakes extensively without chance to cool down could have detrimental effects on your cars brake system. Whilst it is a silly thing to do on purpose, I can certainly see past that to the educational side of knowing the results - i.e. to avoid overloading the brakes in a very long down hill section with a fully laden car. In such extreme situations speed should be kept down (e.g. via engine braking) to avoid brake fade or worse.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, dont take it personally guys.
No need to be heavy handed you mods either.
I like the pics personally. There is a good pic on on the internet of a Saab 900 turbo manifold and turbo glowing.

Pomme, that was an objective & fair response you posted however it quoted content that the said author has deleted himself. So in the interest of defusing the thread, I came to the same conclusion as you ironically did yourself - your reply needed to go too.

Others, the views have been put forward, obviously the testing performed has received some split opinions, and we should value the diversity, but unless discussing the topic of overheating brakes e.g. how to make the system more heat tolerant, please don't repeat the discussion that has gone before it. This thread will be monitored closely in this regard and any further redundancy will simply be removed.

I'm sure that suggestions on mods to make the stock brakes more tolerant to prolonged use would be a good & constructive way to wrap up the thread.

This would definately improve airflow to the right wheel. But whether it makes and significant difference, or can somehow be implemented on the left side i don't know.

Are there LHS versions of the pog, and if so does the intercooler sit on the left...? Which would mean the left duct exists.
