  • SAT NAV into GTI

    Hello all,
I am looking at replacing the standard radio fitted to the Polo GTI and replacing it with a Volkswagen MFD2 Sat Nav system.
Before I start this process I need to see how the radio is fitted behind its face, so to this end has anyone removed their radio?
Is it a simple job of removing it using 4 x radio keys and pulling it out? Or do I have to remove some of the face around the radio area?

Appreciate the words of enthusiastic dubers.

      Hi,

Buy a set of tweezers, cut them in two. Put one in each slot and push them sideways, keep going until the radio comes out.

Very simple. About 3 minutes work

          Flipper,

We have done the job on our Polo GTI (Genuine VW Nav unit) - not so straightforward as the 9N3 polo uses can bus comms for speed signal etc - (where the MFD2 does not) but possible with the correct interfaces etc.

I'll have to post up some pics when I get time!

no need to post pics, these guys have nailed the MFD2 install lol

so do you lose your radio when you replace it with the VW sat nav? how good is the VW mapping software?

Thanks everyone so far your info.

I have the keys arriving shortly along with the MFD2 Sat Nav (a mate in Munich scored one for a price better than a portable set up).

The VW navigation is below anything you would buy off the shelf in the portable jobs, like Navman, Tom Tom etc and the mapping software a few years behind, but maps are always updated and with more VWs getting around with Sat Nav hopefully soon.

Guy can you shed any more light on the interfaces I would need?

Of cause I will post the full fit out with pictures once I do the task.

              Thanks,
