Do you feel that the 1st gear is not smooth enough. If i release the clutch too fast, the car produce shuddering. But if make it really slow, thats fine but i will start the car reli reli slow.
Anyone can explain?
Thanks!

I'm fairly sure that you will find it is the dog-bone bushing ( more or less the gearbox support mount ). VW has used the same bushing stiffness over the whole Polo range, which is not supportive enough for the GTI.
Guy Harding at Harding performance has some stiffer one's in production now, after doing a lot of experimenting with different stiffnesses. So keep an eye on his site, there are a few of us waiting on these things.
so is that me hold it to around 4-5 rev in the first gear and change it to second gear will become more smooth? Thanks for all u guys help coz i am a newbie!
So long as after your change your doing above 1,200 it shouldn't really be a problem.
The main thing is to get the speed of your gear change correct.
Lets just say in 1st you want to change at speed x.
Now in 2nd speed x are revs y.
All you have to do when you change from first to second is make sure you are releasing the clutch when the revs drop to y. This will make the shift alot smoother.
If you change to fast, the revs will still be too high... too slow and the revs will drop too low. In either case there will be lurching to get the engine upto the required revs y for that speed x in that gear.

I have always noticed that, particularly in higher revs, the gearbox seems to make more noise when changing from 1st to 2nd, as opposed to changing in other gears. I don't mean a grinding or some other horrible noise, or that it is not smooth, more like you can hear the gears engaging more noticeably.
Is this related to the bushing stiffness? Not even sure if it is a problem, or just a characteristic of the gearbox.

Hey guys i have another prob with mine. It makes a metal on metal grinding sound at high RPM or under load in 1st and second. I had the syncro meshing prob with 1st and second and went away now it does this umm they seem to be the weak link to me.
After a while you just get used to the grinding crunch of 1-2 change.
Changing gears smoothly is really about matching the revs. I find at 3000rpm in first it is very smooth, but it varies from person to person. Like I said, blip the throttle if you are changing slowly so the revs match up better.

Drive faster. Hold some more revs in first and blip the throttle during the 1-2 gearchange.
I dont think bliping the throttle works on an up shift the engines revs will drop not increase after the shift, works on down shift only.
My grinding is not change related.
