Nope, not illegal and won't typically void a new car warranty (not that that is of concern in this case). It changes fuel and air mixtures, timing and boost. But IMO, wait till you have the car and while and see if you want more power and increased fuel consumption. With my mods I'm using 1.5-2l more per 100kms and very likely going through front tyres quicker, it's a lot more fun so worth the cost to me.

My S3 will do 800 on a tank and average less than 9 around town, that's chipped and produces a fair bit more than a Polo GTI. Consumption shouldn't be that much worse than standard, depending how you drive.

Front tyres will take a hit if you are setting off from lights all the time and giving it even a tiny bit of boot.

I feel your pain, being a TDI owner all my life - the GTI feels sooooo slow.

good girl - sure, minis have their merits, but god damn i cant stand the sight of them anymore... waaaaaaaaaaaay too many on the road, to the point that they're not anything unique or special IMO.

I might need some driving lessons from you Gav. It goes really well but fuel consumption has increased much more than expected, even when puttering around gently.

I would be inclined to spend a little more than 450 on your tyres. That's one thing I wouldn't be cutting corners on. Safety is paramount!

Yeah... You only buy cheap tyres once!!

There is so much you can do to your Polo, it's unbelievable!! My Polo GTI went from looking like this:

                  To this:

Over the nearly four years I have owned it.

There are plenty of threads in the Polo section that can help you out with what you would like to do to your car.

as for tyres, yes.... saving money on tyres also means lower grip, lower responsiveness, longer braking distances etc etc.

tyres are something that you shouldnt cheap out on. they may save your life (tyres were a factor in me being able to avoid a big fcking kangaroo on the way back from perisher this year).

You can get a set of KU31's for 500 or less in Syd. Good rubber for the price, but I've not tried much else, just went on reviews vs cost.
