Clutch

Hey guys,

The last few weeks I have been hearing a slight metallic rattling when I engage the clutch from a standing start (more obvious when leaving echoing garage. Seems to be worse on colder mornings, and seems to improve when warmed up. Main reason I posted is that this morning upon pulling out onto the street, I heard the revs really fly momentarily then settle. I have read widely on the interweb and views are numerous (throwout bearing, clutch slipping etc.).

With the car reaching its 2nd birthday this month and only 23000k's, should I be experiencing clutch problems this early? I have never had to replace a clutch, especially on a car this young.

thats to early,
i have 83000km's and it's stage II, do alot of dragraces and trackday now and then.
still got the factory clutch on it.
i'm noticing it is starting to wear out now, but it isn't slipping yet.

normally, if the clutch warms up, it spins more easy.
at least at a friends ibiza 20VT.
i have an idea about what it could be but i don't know what it's called in english:p

That's very early to be a clutch, but stranger things have happened. I have just clicked over 100,000km on my car, and I have had no problems at all. You may need to get it checked out and diagnosed properly, as you may have a leak on to the clutch causing to to slip, or the face of your clutch may be glazed as well.

Have booked car in for a service, so will get it checked whilst it's there. In the mean time, I have been eyeing off an ECS stage 1 kit, which seem to have been reduced in price (total landed under $600). If I'm going to have to replace it (not covered under warranty), it seems logical to upgrade. The only concern is comments regarding SMF rattling??? Is this just a wrong term used for chatter/shudder upon clutch engagement due to lack of DMF?
