Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Cruise not working.

    Hey guys. Help please.

One of my brake lights went out today so i pulled it out and drove down to repco (60kms away).
On the way EPC and traction lights came on. And cruise just stopped working.
Put the globe in lights went away. Still no cruise.

I checked the brake switch (accel and brake ) and fuel cuts out.

    Disconnected battery for and hour.

    Still no cruise.. Ideas??

I had a similar series of problems on an older car, came down to a couple of fuses. Easy to check, open the drivers door and open up side panel on dash (if not, on the other side, can't remember). There's a special tool to help remove and replace, plus a couple of spare fuses. Take care when looking, as one of my troublesome fuses blew and then rejoined with the tiniest of connections. Hope your solution is a simple as mine.

There may be a fault code left in the system that will disable the cruise as the cruise control is linked to the brakes.

If all is ok, it should clear itself after driving a bit more (fault code changes to intermittent) and cruise will return on the next start up. Had a similar issue with my Passat, brake fault and cruise.

If not then get a scan for the code.

Thanks guys, I will check the fuses tomorrow. Otherwise my mates got a scanner so ill go there and check the trouble codes.
Its under warranty, but hate booking my car in and waiting a day while VW check things i can do myself.
