  • Looking for a new Polo GTI..

    Hi All,

Been camping in the forum for a while now and finally decide to get a Polo GTI.
I Was tossing up between the Polo GTI and Peugeot 207 GT.
I am looking at a White 2007 Polo GTI with full leather and glass roof as options.
What price range would I be looking at with that specs?
BTW I'm from Melbourne and do you know any good VW dealers around Melbourne?

Sorry for my English, as an oversea student I'm still working on my grammar.

    Thanks in advance,

Welcome! Congrats on the excellent choice you have made. I'm sure everybody here will tell you, that you won't regret it!

The Polo GTI is a fun car to drive. Got lots of grunt, looks good, and has great aftermarket support if you're planning to modify it.

Prices start from $26,990 + ORC for a GTI with no extras. You can add leather ($2490) to that and a sunroof if you want. I've heard a few stories of people pulling salesmans arms and getting $27-28K drive away.

There is a waiting list depending on the colours. White and red seem to be the most popular so I dunno depending on what stock levels are like you could get lucky perhaps???? Otherwise waiting lists could be up to 3 months in some cases.

Sorry can't help you out with your question reqarding Melbourne dealerships because I'm from Sydney. But I'm sure one of the friendly Melb dubbers here will be able to provide some useful info.

    Good luck with it!

You can get a stock polo gti from Werribee VW for $28900 drive away. They aren't too bad to deal with in my experience.

Don't know whether it's the same elsewhere, but the Canberra dealer is offering the choice of (a) additional 2yrs warranty or (b) $1500 in accessories or (c) free servicing to 45,000k on Polos delivered through till end Sept. Could be worth keeping in mind for negotiations

                  Welcome to VWwA dknlm

If you want a 2007MY I think you can only get whats in stock ???? and you are more liable to get 2007MY discounted than MY08.

MY08 you can order what ever spec you want

                  Good Luck

haha. get this price and spec of Cygnus, and walk into a dealership with your cheque book and tell them, you'll sign this straight away if you give me this price or better. Tell them you will be buying one today, if its not from them, will be from someone else.

If they don't budge, give them a card with your number and tell them to call you when they decided to get a customer! and just walk away! =)

Even at full price the drive away should be $31,000 with metallic. Either they are ripping you off or the dealer delivery is even more astronomical now!

If you don't like haggling and want a reasonable deal, I suggest a car broker. Either that or bring someone like your dad or any stubborn male who can be a calming influence on you and wont be persuaded by a salesman into a bad deal. I had my dad with me and considering this was the first time I had bought a new car, it definitely saved me from getting into trouble.

i did have my dad (hes a stubborn european, how can i go wrong??) with me and hes really good with haggling and getting the price he wants.. he has done so with our past 3 cars..

weve only been to liverpool so far and he would not budge.. the salesman was pretty steadfast with what he could and couldnt do so my dad just made me walk away and said we can get it at a better price elsewhere which is true..

Good idea - I didn't like the way Liverpool dealt with me either.

Me and my dad managed to bring the price down with them, but they sold me a car that didn't exist and THEN wanted to move me into an 06 build / 07 compliance without negotiating further on the price.

This and other issues which I wont go on about here - best to avoid that dealership. I found them very unprofessional.

I don't know how you will go with an MY08, but if there are any MY07s left you should be able to get yourself a good deal elsewhere.

                            Best of luck!

Don't get too caught up on this MY07/MY08 b/s. Unless it is a newer, "higher" spec model, if it is built in '07 it will always be treated in the trade as an '07, despite what the new car salesman says. Unless it has MY08 build date on the VIN plaque, don't be fooled into paying any extra n:
