Just an update if anyones interested. Car is booked for the 14th of April to get my Control arm bushes replaced, sway bar installed as well as coilovers. After that is stage 2 engine mods and brakes. That however is a few months away.

        What is stage 2?

For me I would want the Pd160, good diverted valve (I'm liking the new Forge diverter) and maybe a better dump pipe.

If the short shift kits are still around, one of my favourite mods.

            Custom, cost me about $400.
Good for a few extra kw and a little more exhaust growl.

Yeah i was going to get FMIC, Turbo back exhaust, BMC CDA, K04 turbo and all the other bits and pieces to go with. Got the Diverter valve already. Coz i like spending money.

Fair call. Personally the Ko4 and full exhaust are likely not the best way to go, but at least that way you know what to expect.
If you can't get a used k04, you would likely get better results from a different snail.

                      Sure.

IMO a worked polo GTI is either,
                      - chipped, intake work, fmic, basic dump or dump and cat, good diverter, suspension, wheels and tyres.

                      Or

                      - k04 or better, same as above, injectors, fuel reg, full exhaust then there are plenty of options that can help. I'm hoping Plautos' car may one day be for sale, that thing is barely a Polo any more. Seeing his videos, overtaking some 'performance' cars is amazing.

The difference is in 2 key areas; getting more boost / air flow and how it's tuned. If you want good results either way, a good tune / tuner is the key (here's to you Gav). A k04 with a generic map is a waste IMO.

If you want to see crazy power, look to Badger's threads on the uk Cupra forums.

A good tune and supporting mods may cost around 1500 upwards, a good turbo and supporting mod upgrades is more like $5k. There are of course many ways to do this more cheaply, especially if you are a talented person or know someone who can help you out for beer or sex.

The reason I have not gone past my current setup is that traction is a real issue with a chipped and lightly worked Polo, with coil overs, bigger sway bars, wider stance, wider tyres. I have respect for the guys who have gone further, most of them have a real passion and like me, have spent hundreds of hours researching and filling in this section of the forum. We've looked to the old 1.8t's, cars that share the same basic build (seat supra) and other variants.

For me, after you have something like 135kw atw, the suspension becomes more relevant than squeezing out a few more kw.

                      I don't want to put anyone off, but if you want to do it with good results, you will benefit from;
                      - semi slicks
                      - good suspension
                      - custom tuning
                      - LSD
                      - sway bars, braces and as much stiffness as suits for maximum traction.

If you are going to do all that, it really needs a nice set of rims, a few unique bits of trim and it will be beloved by all of us and hopefully you.

Thanks for the info. I am really going to do everything else before i do turbo because you never know i may get to a point where i am happy with it the way it is. I dont really know of any places in perth that will do a custom tune for me unfortunately. As usual this forum has been a wealth of information. Cheers.

Wow its been 4 months since an update. Geez.

Anyway here is a pic of me getting up my driveway with the coil overs I had fitted a few months back.

When I'm driving they aren't to rough but when I'm going slow they can be a bit hard. May get them loosened a little bit. I have to travel on Great Eastern HWY everyday over here so Perth people will know what that's like at the moment.

Ok so I got some rims for free off a mate and they were a little banged up but otherwise good. So I got them sand blasted.

And then I got the edges repaired. So now they are ready for paint. I will do this over the next weekend or so. At the moment I came down with the flu so I'm not doing anything.

Hopefully I can get my tyres on soon which most of you have seen already from a previous post

On another note I just got the 65000km service done on Thursday and had the APR downpipe installed. I'm yet to do intake as I haven't decided 100% on what I want to do. I will be doing in the next few weeks at the same time as rims. I realise I should have done that first but things just turned out this way. This may be the last of the mods for this year as I have a competition going with a mate to save up 10k towards a house by the end of the year. So I better get saving. Already halfway but I don't want to fall behind.

                            That's all for now

                              Here are more updates.
Got that cheap 65 dollar CF intake off ebay. Seems good enough but will be changing the pod at a later date as its on the cheap side. Also I managed to get the 3" piping installed with some modifications. If I had to do it again id definently use 2.75"

Just couple of pics of downpipe under car

                              Also Tyres on the car

Just another update. I made my own custom PD160 Style intake. Using 3" piping. It was a tight squeeze but its in there and works a charm.
