Bonnet stuck shut - need help please

I was trying to check my fluids under the bonnet today of my 06 GTI and I think the cable has broke or come loose as I can't open the bonnet. I have removed the panel by the lever, but no matter how hard I pull the cable itself it won't open.
I have tried using a screwdriver in the gap on the bonnet by the catch but I'm not sure where to push/pull.
Can someone put up a pick of the bonnet catch that shows where I need to press to release it?

Have you tried pushing on the bonnet while another person pulls the lever...
On a previous car this was the only way to open the bonnet...
