  • Windscreen quality

Do you guys find that the polo's front windscreen are more prone to scratches and chips then windscreens you find on other cars; or is it just me?

After giving the polo a good wash today i found atleast 8 very fine chips (less than 1mm in width and depth) on the car.. unable to see unless its in direct lighting. Never brought my car bush-bashing so it's very strange how it got there - or the windscreens is that weak that any small rock would scathe it..

    Any ideas?

exactly, even my mum's corolla which is on 80,000km has a flawless windscreen

which made me think it might've been the build quality...

A have a few little windscreen chips - more than on previous cars... but the paint quality more than makes up for it... hardly any marks on it - my Euro previously had a shatload on it at this point with similar driving!!!

I dunno about windscreen chips but the only panel of the car that doesn't have stone chip is the boot.

I have close to 15 stone chips in the bonnet alone.... Next year I think the car gets a respray.

20 months old no window chips no stone chips no door dingings. My golf suffered from bad window chips tho. I think they happen to every car it just hit or miss.

Im no expert, but I didn't think the 'quality' of the windscreen would have any impact on how many chips and scratches you get. I thought it would be more to do with the design of the car, where you drive and luck.

I have noticed a couple of chips in my bonnet already, only driven 3000kms. Otherwise its flawless

I've found that putting the headlight & bonnet protectors and mudflaps on the Euro has paid off big time. Nothing major to report there. The Polo OTOH, got chips all over the place...

Edit: Ah yeah shape of car would definitely have something to say. The Euro is a lot more laid back (in the angular way), maybe the bonnet protector also helps to create a "wind shield" across the windscreen? Whereas the Polo is more of a "driving into the wind" case, i.e. sitting more upright.

I had the bonnet and headlight protectors on my old Honda Civic - I will admit the front of the bonnet was nearly spotless as a result after 12 years. But they do look terrible - I didn't care on the honda as to me that was just a runabout but with the GTI I couldn't think of anything worse to spoil it - I love the front end of it!

Personally, I'd rather have a few chips on it and respray it in a few years if it gets too bad, than have the covers on.

If you're looking to protect the bonnet/front of your car, without using the bonnet and headlight shields, you might want to look into paint protection film - much like this 3M product:
3M combines science, technology, creativity and innovation to make a real impact, stimulating progress to inspire people and communities across the globe.

It's practically invisible - it's similar to book 'contact' and will provide a layer of protection above your clearcoat, while being practically invisible.

I'm quite happy about the way the headlight and bonnet protectors look on the Euro.
