Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Cheers guys. Just sat in a coffee shop debating what to do as I need a car this weekend but no mechanic available!

Car is ok, few scratches on the bonnet. Wing mirror housing plastic has cracked. Inside it needs a bloody good clean but nothing appears broken - except the plastic section across the bottom of the windscreen, cracked.

Has some service history but there are gaps. Timing belt has receipt for 74k, but the owner claims and there is a sticker on the engine that says it was done at 120k(4k ago) but he doesn't have the receipts. Only one key.

Drives really nice, gear changes seem smooth but I didn't thrash it either. There was a slight whine from the gears but I assume that's nothing to be concerned about...

    I'm here! http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/f98/my-first-intro-gti-113741.html

Sounds all pretty common for the polo. Depending on the cars you've come out, noticing some gear whine isn't the first time I've heard that, and the cracking dash is now common too. My daily polo was always garaged up to 2yrs ago and not a blemish on the paint or cracked dash, but have since developed

If you end getting one, you'll find this is quite an active community should you have any dramas.
Track Car: 06 Polo GTI Red Devil mkII
      Daily: 2010 VW Jetta Highline
Gone but not forgotten: 08 Polo GTI

Thanks for the confirmation, yeah I have noticed this forum has very helpful members. I managed to get a vw specialist mechanic out to have a pre purchase inspection done and he said mechanically it's sound, just a few issues like cv boot is split, suspension knocks and will need a change. Nothing major though, happy so far!

Only bad thing about the polo will be the itch to go to stage 2. Err and perhaps the girls car comments
