  • Check Exhaust Light?

Hey all, my 'check exhaust' light came on the other day. I was wondering whether anyone else has had this, and if so what was the problem/easy fix?/covered by warranty?
My GTI is at 68,XXXkm and I'm unsure as to whether this is common or not for that mileage.
    Any help is appreciated!

Get it scanned at the dealer or at a workshop with a VAGCOM. How old is your car? If less than 3 years old, it should be covered under warranty.
It could be a faulty exhaust sensor.

Yeah it's an '08 so they better cover it under warranty (expires July).
It's hard to tell aurally because the pog's got a pretty throaty burble at idle so here's hoping it's just a dud sensor. Any suggestions on good dealerships in Melbourne when it comes to covering things under warranty? Camberwell is the most conveniant but i'm willing to travel if it means better service.

I take mine to Camberwell VW in Doncaster, they are behind the Audi dealer on Doncaster rd.. Great service, much better than barloworld in Glen Waverley

I had one of these ... I scanned it and it was a Secondary Air Intake error (something like that), took it to the dealer .. who scanned it, reset the error codes and told me to come back if it comes on again

Anyway, 2 months later it came back on and after a bit of investigation I found I had a split vac hose - 3-4mm int.diam one. Replaced the hose and I've never had a problem since. I think when I installed the APR R1 DV it takes up a bit more space and was pushing on the hose and made it split.

              Thanks Dean,

Did you replace the hose with an aftermarket piece or not?
I'm really hoping that VW don't just turn the warning light off and hope that nothing happens until the warranty expires in 4 months.
              I'll give Camberwell a call I reckon.

Scan... Could be one of the sensors in the exhaust, they have been prone to failure.

I had this issue, it was a split air vacuum pipe on the secondary air pump, replaced under warranty by South Yarra VW and no issues since

If you want to look, it's the Vac hose that runs over / behind your engine cover from the far left of the engine to the valve (silver) near the airbox.

When an aftermarket diverted is installed, it can move around and slowly wear through the Vac hose.

That's the one that split on mine. You can pick up the hose (buy it by the metre) from any Auto parts shop.

i had the same problem, put a new hose on it with a bigger piece over it on the place where it rubs,
now it is safe again :-p

Dropped it into the SouthYarraVW this morning, picked it up this afternoon - nothing wrong apparently.

Ah well, I know what to look out for next time, thanks all!
