Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Get your battery tested. I had this same problem happen to me when I first bought my car, battery was dead, nothing would work but the engine still started. After I replaced the battery, got all the codes cleared, and it was all good.

Regarding your engine codes, thats something else.

You put a smaller battery in... And you've got a big stereo.... And you're having electrical faults...

      2+2=4.

More electricity required. Thats why they have such big batteries standard.

Once the car is running it's the alternator that supplies power. Big stereo setups often have bigger alt's

I am running 2 amps one for sub and another for front speakers, car seems to start better with new battery.
It is not that small it is 450CCA which should be pretty good, I think standard is 500CCA or 550

Stereo works and lights on etc when car is turned off, so i didnt think the battery was lacking power

Yeah, but how many volts do you have???

You'll need at LEAST 14.4 to keep these little tech-boxes running. Faulty battery or faulty connections are where i'd be looking.

You have an electrical problem, which occured after you changed your battery system.

Return it to standard and go from there...

Battery has been in for 2 months, I had a electrical problem after 2 months of putting the Battery in so I didn't really think that there was 2+2=4 lol.

I know of someone who is running a real small battery and noproblems. I will try a different battery on the weekend

I saw VWindahouse is running a Deka Power Sports ETX14 AGM, which is about half the size and power of my one, maybe a loose connection somewhere as I had to extend the wires

Would anyone know, or know where to find the battery specs of the polo

                  What CCA, AMPS, etc

Yay thanks to Jmac who told me to check fuse number 7, now I have power steering and traction control, so I am half way there, it must have blown when i disconnected the battery to try and reset the computer.

I wish there was someone here like Jmac in Melbourne, there is no one really that i trust, most are just out to get $$, the real Watercooled community helps out.

If Jmac was in Melbourne, I would Gladly bring my car to him

People are quick to point the finger because I have done more than them to their polo's
It took me about 1 month to get the battery in there, and i did a lot of research on what battery to use, not wanting a under powered one
