Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Temperature / Coolant light

    Hey Guys,

My temperature/Coolant light has started coming on regularly, i have checked the coolant levels and they are a little low, but nothing serious. The temperature of the car itself seems fine. I am about 10,000 kms away from my 60,000 service (which shouldnt be too long considering the amount of kms i do).

I was thinking about simply topping up the levels and hoping that sees me through until my service. What type of coolant would you recommend for a 06 GTI?

    Cheers

G12+ I think? Dealer will sell you a litre for about $20.

The coolant only needs to be a little under the line before the light comes on. A little distilled water souls suffice for 50ml top up.

Top up with the demineralized / distilled water only, if you still see the coolant in the reservoir/expansion bottle and tell your mechanic to pressure test the cooling system and check the water pump for the leak.

          As Transporter said above.

I had my water pump die at only 45k on my Polo
