    i do enjoy a bit of 2nd & 3rd gear boost but i should still be cracking the 400km per tank mark surely? AC hasn't been working overtime as im concsious of my crappy fuel consumption

    My last mod was a cat back exhaust system from Methams...since then the fuel consumption has been terrible to say the least

    Any hints as to what to look at when in for next service?

    Jmac: "have the live data read in cruise conditions, not stop start stuff, and watch the injector pulse width and lambda figures" - is this something that can be adjusted quite easily?

      I struggle for 385km to a tank in drive-to-work conditions.

      I enjoy a bit of lead-foot action at times, but even highway stuff only gets me around 450 at best!

        How much are you guys filling up each time you visit the tank? I can squeeze in 45-47 litres each time...by pressing that little round black button next to the filler hole once the nozzle clicks, it expels all the pressure in the tank leaving more room for actual petrol. I get over 600km regularly - I do like to give it some as well (averaging about 7.3-7.5l/100 atm). When coming up to a set of lights, I like to revmatch downwards and coast to a stop which really helps me save petrol and keep my momentum in case it turns green!

          The only little black round button I see is the one that locks the gas flap.
          Do have a movable sort of nipple-shaped protruberance just inside the filler opening, could that be it?

            Yeah, you'll hear a hissing sound when you depress it while filling.

                I use to pull the nozzle out and wait a few seconds before trying to push more fuel in, will try that pressure release button tomorrow

                  For those with an iPhone, I can recommend an app called Gas Cubby Lite.

                  Here is what I get from my 08' GTi and APR.

                    decided to drive carefully/not gassing it everywhere + no air con (killing me in this perth weather) + some highway driving and fuel consumption has been not bad....down to just over half tank at the moment and am at 200+ kms

                    who would have thought not thrashing it could make such a difference

                      My fuel economy was great on Stage 1 REVO - was doing average 8.2litres/100km on just normal driving - enough revs once in a while. After Stage 2 REVO - it does around 10litres/100km on traffic (crawling) journeys of 22km daily. On weekend with highway driving - doing around 9-9.5 litres/100km. It has been warm weather - but I don't use airconditioning too often.

                      It's definitely had about 10-15% more fuel consumption since the tune - hope it shows on the next dyno - end of March. It made 136kw at wheels with 17" heavy replica wheels. Now I am back on factory wheels with Stage 2, and with cooler temp - I really want 145kw+ which is optimistic but will see.

                      Today in the morning with heavy foot - it was 13litres/100km one way. Darn.
                      06 Polo GTI - REVO Stage 2 = 140kw @ wheels.
                      06 Golf GTI - Bluefin Stage 1 blacked out with ED30 theme, leather, xenon, etc.

                        I did this today (then pressure release valve just inside the right side of the filler neck), and managed to squeeze in an amazing 49.68L in, considering the pump firsr clicked at 38L. This is the same petrol station I usually use, so I don't think there is anything dodgy going on... I'm going to test the fuel consumption out tomorrow when I drive down to Melbourne... I figure with this much juice on board, I'll make it all the way there on one tank!!

                          Well, I managed to make it to Melbourne from Canberra (630km) on one tank, but consumption was pretty crappy at 8.1l/100... I'm going to play around with the tyre pressures to see if that improves anything...

                            Just some tips I'd like to contribute to save you money + get you further on each tank.

                            * Always monitor tyre pressure levels, Don't ignore the tyre pressure warning light.
                            * Slowly approach a stop and try not to come to a complete standstill;
                            - If any of you have done physics, you'll know that it takes heaps of energy to get something going from a complete standstill, so if you can roll to the lights, and keep the car going so you don't have to stop.
                            * Fill up when its cheap, not when your low on petrol.
                            * Use correct oil for smooth & efficient engine operation.
                            * Did you know that if you travel at 80km per hour instead of 100km per hour, you will reduce your fuel consumption by 50%?
                            * Avoid long engine warm-ups, 1 minute is plenty.
                            * Check your wheel alignment
                            * Drive in the right gear - Correct usage outlined in your manual.
                            * Travel light - Don't lug around heavy items in your car that aren't needed.
                            * Minimise drag - Close your windows, especially travelling at higher speeds.
                            * Don't rev the engine and accelerate unnecessarily

                            This is all I have for now..

                              hey gang...im getting crazy mileage with the 'overfill' option (pressing the button as mentioned above) - is there any risk to overfilling???

                                Crazy mileage, or range?

                                Is it normal to have to press the button several times, and a few extra litres goes in after each time?
