Any particular recomendations for Headlight Bulbs on 9N3?

I was going to try Phillips 'Blue Vision Ultra' but sudden failure of both bulbs meant I had to use the best I could buy locally on the day. I now have Bosch 'Laser Blue' which give a whiter light (not really at all blue) and better night visibility than the previous bulbs.
I'd like to know if anyone has any strong preferences or recomendations.
Also, has anyone else found that headlight bulbs only last around a year and then both fail within days?

This is something that i am also interested in. I am picking up my GTI tomorrow (YAY!!) and as i do a lot of night driving on freeways, place a high priority on top quality lights. Can anyone recommend what they think is the best / strongest lights available for a 9n GTI on the market in oz?

I have the Philips Crystal Vision, great set of lights but the higher white you go the less range they have, so blue vision is slightly higher range than crystal, but crystal is more of a blue/white colour.. depends on what you like, go to autobarn and check them out in the test box

If these are the same as European models then they're probably Philips bulbs, this is one of the reasons that I would look first at Philips after-market replacements.

I remember a friend had endless problems with his car not running properly at night until he replaced the 130W bulbs that came with the car with the OE 55W ones. They actually drew enough to flatten his battery during a night journey

I fixed the problem with my headlights with the trip to the Optometrist. It worked a treat.

I have Cibie xenon white globes in both low and high beam.


BRILLIANT light, much whiter (without being blue at all) and much more distance, too.

For those night trips, I crank up the Cibie Oscar spreadbeam spots, also with xenon globes. Interstate overnighters are a breeze.

Philips bulbs are the best:

VisionPlus or Extreme.

For best vision at night/in the wet DO NOT chose any bulbs with a bluey/white beam. They markedly reduce your vision at night.
