I took my car to be serviced to a reputable workshop. It was a 60k major service and they seemed to do alot and charged $623ish which seems much better than the dealers. However I'm starting to feel abit annoyed. I feel more worried driving my car now than before my service. When I picked up the car (traffic and they were busy) they had about 10 mins to closing. I got my car and jumped against traffic for about 10 minutes when my coolant warning light came on. As I would take about 20 mins to go in the opposite direction, I pulled in a side street and turned the car off. (car had been sitting in sun all day ... Wasn't sure if it was just hot) and then started up again and made it home. The warning light has come on twice since then.. Unfortunately when I'm in a rush and have only just been able to let my car cool down so I could check the coolant. It is just below he minimum mark. I checked the paperwork and they charged me for 3L of g12. Would this indicate a leak of some sort? just want to know if this sort of problem is common. And how should I top it up as I'm driving to Lorne in about 2 hrs

you can get distilled water from bunnings or safeways probs even have it.
You'll only really need about half a litre if to just op it up.
Have you rung volkspower? They'll probably be more than happy to have a second look, and double check whether there is a leak, & top it up for you.

As a mechanic, I'm saying this from experience. Sometimes air bubbles just take take a while to work themselves through the system, and they can make the reservoir drop just below the sensor level. Just because the alarm is going off doesn't mean the car is going to stop dead within the next few meters.
You can top it up with normal or distilled water and it won't drastically change the makeup of the coolant. As the coolant is new, even adding more G12 won't hurt it too.
It's a bit rich to slag off the workshop before you have even rung them. Im sure they would have been more than happy to fix it for you."If can't get behind your troops, feel free to stand in front of them..."

Nah not trying to bad mouth them at all. Just a little frustrated that everyday the alarm goes off and circumstances have made it so I cant go back yet. I was simply giving you details that it was professionally done and asking if there was anyway i could top it up safely so I wouldn't overheat on a long trip.

Why don't you give them a phone call, and ask about the issue? Would not be the slightest bit surprised if they suggest to you what has been suggested above.
It's normal courtesy to ask a vendor or service agent directly about an issue (if you can) before announcing it to the world, if you see the logic in that.2007 VW Polo GTi, white, standard. First registered in Japan, imported to NZ 2010. Owned since Dec/10. Love at first drive.

That was fairly poor form naming the workshop like that. The first thing I would of done would be to call them. They may of been able to talk you through it over the phone2008 VW Polo TDi

I would have rung them. I can't think of too many independants that leave work at the same time as the close the workshop doors. Somebody would have been thereto attend to your issue.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic
