2nd/3rd gear synchros are crap from the factory, stacks of people (mostly early build Polo's) had issues with them.

The only solution I found (even after trying Redline MTL etc.) was to double clutch during shifts, which slows the 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd shifts down enough to prevent the crunching.
Previous Rides: Polo GTI, Mx5 10AE, MY05 WRX WRP10, Renault Sport Clio 172
Current Ride: Evo 8 MR, Fabia MK3

Well, I might be changing the clutch this weekend so if that happens, I'll spend some extra time on the bench pulling out the 2nd gear syncho and replacing it. Shouldn't be too hard. Putting it all back together is the hard part so I'm going to get a camera to record the dismantling so when I'm putting it all back together, I don't miss a couple of gears/screws lol

I don't have any issues with the 3rd gear synchromesh so that can wait until it breaks. Why did VW have to be so cheap when engineering this box? Its a fricken synchromesh!!

I've removed transmissions before, but this would be the first time changing a synchromesh. I've got all the tools required. I'll be sure to get the workshop manual before getting into it tho.

          Don't be so negative

Not being negative and you will see why when you do the task. Removing the trans isnt hard at all , the strip down and repair isnt easy. Sorry if i came across as negative

I somehow don't think rebooting will help though

                  Hehehehe good call...

Do you require a press to get any gears etc off?

I've already got a gear puller.

If worse comes to worse and I get stuck.

I'll take the stack of gears to a local transmission shop and he will replace the synchromesh and I'll put it all back in.

I really want to do it all myself tho. I like challenges.
