  • Polo GTI - what tyre pressures are people running?

I had an interesting chat with a guy in the dealers yesterday about tyre pressures, he said that i should be running higher pressures that the stock which is shown on the sticker on the door, think thats 2.1 or something. Anyway, so what are other people running?

General rule is 36-38PSI for longer life with good performance.
Also pays to increase the pressure on the front's to 2PSI over the rears as you have the engine weight in the front.

Yup, I do as above and will run 44/42 when tracking it to protect the sidewalls, which still get flogged out.

          Front 38
          Rear 36

          On 40 profile (215/40/17)

Lower pressure gives less grip, higher pressures don't suit my suspension and the ride gets uncomfortable.

That sounds too high, it would be interesting to see how high the pressure gets after a few hard laps...

                lol. onya, stew!

i know that the rears are nothing more than trolley trailers, but i feel a wee bit unkempt if i run them at different pressures.

in my experience, tread depth (e.g. new tyres vs one's you're about to throw out) is more impacting on tyre handling than 0.5psi in tyre pressure.....

Previously used 36 all round and was okay in terms of balance of comfort and performance but through harder cornering and more spirited driving, feels better on 38 psi. Usually do 2psi lower for rear tyres but haven't felt any differences throughout the ten years of motoring.

I used to run 38psi front and 36psi rear on using my daily wheels - 16x6.5, using 205/45/16. I've carried the same pressures over for my 17x8, using 205/40/17. The pressures do seem to be working well considering the stretch. Ideally I should run a little higher, but it would be just a little too uncomfortable I think. Touch wood, I haven't had any issues.
