  • Panel repair

My GTI had a smallish prang 3 years ago. Another car hit the rear drivers 3/4 panel. A well-known Brisbane panel shop fixed it. Lost the wheel lock bolt nut. Forgot to paint the wheel. Lost the VW wheel cap......... So now some of the clear on the paint is now peeling off and the panel that was replaced looks all ripply. Think cellulite. Jimmy has picked up file marks on the replaced panel.

So of course it was insurance so they will inspect and get the panel shop to fix as there is a life time warranty. All sounds good in theory but I can only imagine the way my car will be regarded in the panel shop when they have to basically redo what they did in the first place only this time for nothing..........

    Anyone had experience of this???

sounds like a shoddy prep job on the panel before painting, it should be a warranty thing but you wont know until you try

I have a similar position, the hit on the car too. The colour is slightly out (when the light is right) and the lower quarter of that panel is not perfectly accurate (bad bog job). It's not to the point that is worth taking it back and I'm trying not to be too precious, but hoping that it's not obvious to potential buyers down the track. If it is, I'll be taking it back.

You've got to take the chance in having it fixed again.

From memory your car's silver Sean? It seems like a compete bugger of a colour to match. I see lots of silver cars driving around with a door or bumper that doesn't match the rest of the car.. Might end up worse the second time around.

To Pete, I'm sure it'll be fine, don't worry about it. It's for the insurance company and panel shop to argue over.
