  • Possible turbo damage?

    hey guys,

after a very spirited drive in the twisties a couple of nights ago, my turbo has become a lot louder and "choppy" in sound when it hits full boost...as opposed to the clean pssst sound it used to make under load

I've checked all the hoses for potential leaks but nothing seems to be loose...

The car boosts just as hard as before and drives like normal, however the sound has been bugging me and was wondering if maybe I've damaged the turbo somehow...

I've scanned the car for codes and nothing has come up...the only thing left to do is log my boost in vag com but haven't had the time...

    any ideas?

yeah, might do that in the next few days hopefully...

would damaged turbo fins cause boost loss though? i just did a couple of 3rd gear runs in vagcom...boost seems pretty healthy (all logs done on my private test track ) measured in psi btw

early stages of the turbo bolts loosening off? I'll let you know after Wednesday after mine gets looked at for similar, but got louder lol.

No not turbo bolts mate as they are ex to turb bolts. If they go loose then you drop boost, less expanding gasses going out before the hairdryer gets the chance to send it to point B. noise will be turbo itself or divertor return to intake part of the system. Mind you , you are going by feel, if i were to look at that i would indeed look at the turbo compressor side and smoke test the sytstem to check the integrity of all the hoses
          Cheers

Could be a faulty diverter valve, I had mine make a similar 'choppy' noise when I blew the nipple off the valve (overtightened the clamp, which caused the pipe to split)
