  • Airbag Light Stays On

Hi Guys.... daughters 1997 Polo's air bag light wont go of and I had it run through the dealers diagnostic this morning and the result was:

    004.10-Erase DTC memory
    DTC memory erased
    2 Trouble code detected?

    65535 000
Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum Error

    00532 007
    Supply voltage
    Signal too loow
    sporadic

Accordingly they told me that they now need the car for a whole day to check the complete system for any faults and the worst case scenario is that I would need a new computer which could cost $thousands.

Is all of this correct or am I being shafted?

    Thanks.....Doublecab

    Hi mate
In worst case I do have module for the price 1/10 of thousands....
dont go thru dealers they will rip you off.. (for air bag light)
friend of my had simular problem on the golf 4 they gave him quote thousands...module seatbelt,wiring...who knows what else.... on the end it cost him 1 box of beer (but not cheap one) !!!
PM me and we will work something out.
    Thanks
    Oli

The checksum error generally means the ECU is dead - I have never seen an airbag controller do that before (except for one that had been underwater).

A new airbag ECU would have to be correctly coded to your car - and make sure the part numbers match up if buying non genuine to ensure they are compatible

        Hi
It happens mate sometimes they have some kind of internal error and they are dead.
Usually clock spring common problem on polo's and golf 3, and you have air bag light on,now they fixed that problem.
If you buy new one it needs to be coded for your car if you buy second hand just need to be same part number.(but of course not from the car with deployed air bags)
1JO 909 603 that should be your part number
        Thanks
        Oli

          Polo Airbag Lite Prob

OK Guys.....firstly .... thanks for your input.

The Car is currently booked in to get a full diagnostic/electrical check over next Tuesday to 'specifically' asscertain where the fault is......this they tell me will cost a min of $100.

Micks motors (Brisbane) tell me they don't have/supply after market ECUs and Merc Wreck in Melbourne tell me I can have a 2nd hand one for $495.

So now on the basis of all the current info to hand...... any suggestions as to how I should proceed to keep my daughters costs to a minimum??

          Regards.......DOUBLECAB

Just get the part number of your airbag controller firstly.

Also beware of shipping distances, they need to be packed really well - if you drop a brand new one on the ground or heavily shake it, it can kill the inertia sensor.

When you get your new one sorted, cut the old one apart & you will see how the frontal impact sensor works!

Hi...any idea where the airbag ecu is located so I can check for a number?

                Thanks.....DOUBLECAB

Its usually under the centre console in front of the gearlever - you may have to pull the console out to get to it.

You can of course read the part number with the scan / diagnostic tool without pulling it out!

                    Prob has been solved.

And a extra pat on the back for Oli for supplying a replacement ECU at a very reasonable price.

Now hoping to get a Porsche Boxster for Xmas off my daughter.........I wish.
