Has anyone actually colour code their bump strips? Or glossed their window pillars?

Hi all,
I recently bought a Tdi (4 door) which I had hoped to colour code the bump strips at some point (sooner rather than later). Now this sat fine with me as I work for a euro Marque and all our bump strips are only held on by water proofed clips, BUT, I suspect the side bump strips on the polo are actually held on by clips + sealing tape around the edge? There by, not only making it incredibly difficult to get the strip off the door with out damaging either one, but a huge task to get them back on properly (re-applying seal tape etc.) Thinking laterally I got the price of the "Pacific" (come pre-primed) bump strips for the side because the front and rears should be easy enough to get off. Price = $100 at trade for each door = $400+ before I even look at prep and paint = PRICE>effect.

I would also like to paint my window pillars (6 on a 4 door) and mirror base+small triangle at the front in gloss black. So...my questions are. . .

1. How are each of the bump strips fastened to the car? (especially the side strips)?
2. Has anyone got them off sucessfully? If so, how? and how did you refit them?
3. Has anyone removed the pillars on a 4 door

Any information would be most appreciated!

Its been done, just not many people come on or come on regularly any more.

I was recommended to buy new skirts as they would likely distort when removed. Otherwise, can't comment.

Yeah, I think that even if they could be removed with out damaging the door or the trim, getting them back on would be an epic pain in the ass!
