  • Question: Are the Polo 9N3 GTI front calipers the same as MK IV GTI CALIPERS?

    Guys,

i am looking for a somewhat cheaper alternative to the standard pog front brakes.

I've heard thats the Polo GTI calipers and rotors are the same as the MK IV GTI's. However, some have said they're different??

Can anyone clarify whether they're indeed the same?

I am looking at the following upgrade.... I am now not sure if it will suit....

Volkswagen Golf IV 1.8T > Braking > Big Brake OEM > ES#411 ECS OEM Big Brake Kit - (TT Carrier, 12.3 One Piece Slotted Rotor) - MK4TTBBKNP-S

    Thanks

    David

Mate if you are looking to upgrade for large surface area then look at Audi TT or S3 upgrade, ive done 3 now with good results, only drawback is sourcing the hardware, really good slotted discs and great quality pads are not a problem.
        Cheers

i have a friend with the cup kit on his car. the only drawback is that u have to cut a small section of the lower right mesh to fit the forge intercooler. on the upside, this cut section exposes part of the piping and it makes the car look so much more aggressive. *come mess with me and D.I.E* lol.

sorry for the off topic discussion.

This kit will work for the Polo, because you keep the existing calipers. The TT carriers move them out a bit to clear the larger discs. The Polo calipers may be different to the Mk 4 Golf ones, as Jmac says, but they still bolt up to the TT carriers. I think a few members on here have this fitted already, and I've just ordered one while the Oz dollar is high.

                    Cheers.

Dscott, have you considered EBC upgrades? they do various racing/high performance street/standard replacement parts, both pads and rotors for the Polo GTI. They are direct bolt on and will go under the 16"
Keep in mind that while a search will only reveal green stuff pads for the Polo GTI, you can get redstuff and yellow stuff pads for the Polo too (email them for part numbers) I hope to do an upgrade to their USR rotors and either Red or Yellow stuff pads on all 4 wheels. Didn't come out that expensive (compared to some mods!)

I don't understand, you buy big rotors and carriers, but still have to use small Polo pads? How does this help?

Principle of levers. Moves the point of pad contact further from the centre of rotation of the disc, giving (slightly) better braking force. Probably not as good as larger calipers as well, but much cheaper and an easy DIY, especially if you have to replace the discs anyway.

I have the ECS slotted rotors (MK4 GTI), and I have EBC Greenstuff pads in the stock calipers. I am very happy with the combination, and they work very well.

Not really that expensive to find some MK3 VR6 or MK4 GTI calipers
