  • Good time to buy some VW overseas goodies as the exchange rate is very good!

    Hi Folks,

With the Aussie dollar at 0.9380 must be a good time to buy some VW goodies from overseas as the exchange rate is very good............

I'll put in for a Forge Short Shifter if I can find the right part number and where to buy from, what else??? think hard guys???

So what is on everyones shopping list for their Polo GTI's etc? Christmas is not too far off and if we buy now maybe you'll get something extra.

If you please don't mind adding, advise of Item description & part number,where/which 'website' with link you intend to purchase from, and $aud plus shipping cost?

    Cheers Al

Time is now Dave, the rate is too good! Is that kit a direct swap or does it require upgraded injectors, fuel regulator, tune etc (i'll search in the meantime).

I think it depends what Software you go with, APR requires a 4.0 bar Fuel Pressure Regulator

            GIAC needs •380 cc injectors
•225 TT 3inch OD MAF with real TT sensor

Nice, read up on it. Price is like $1,195 which I think is a great price. It does recommend an upgraded ECU tune to obtain full potential, but not required.

It seems from posts I've read, it is safe to run stock internals etc which I think is great. I wonder what sort of power this will produce with tune, exhaust and kit.

Sounds too cheap for APR, where is that pricing from?

I thought it was around the $3000 mark from APR in Aus, then for the software too, depending if you have a current APR tune or not

How much more power do you get, I guess not that much

I was waiting for you, but I know you were a busy bee!

I ordered the Forge Front Strut and got raped on shipping, lol. GBP 68.00 but by UPS which took I think 3 or 4 days. Hmm, let me see, split costs. You getting an intercooler? lol

Sorry if I created some confusion. Since I know nothing about this kit, I searched iit in google and came up with this:

                        K04-001 Turbo Upgrade Kit, Transverse 1.8T - 034 MOTORSPORT
Kinetic Motorsport: BORG WARNER K04-001 TURBOCHARGER

After reviewing APR's site, it appears that if you supply the parts, then you:

                        a. Have APR install it or your mechanic (add labour costs)
                        b. Software will be $750.00 for 2 programs for existing APR customers who are supplying parts (i.e K04-001 BORG WARNER)

If I'm right, I would say the following costs are broken down as is:
                        1. Borg Warner Kit: USD 1,195 (~AUD 1,275)
                        2. Shipping $150.00 est.
                        3. Customs tax, check this yourself but if its based on 10% then it would be ~$150

Total cost would be just over $1,500 plus labour on top.

Correct me if I'm wrong or missing alot here?

Yeah from APR Aus, its $3000 plus install but if you supply the parts yourself, the tune is $750. You can get hte parts from ecstuning.com or kineticmotorsport.com and the Borg Warner KO4-001 or KKK turbo is around $895 to $1200 or so including the install parts depending on where you get it from. Seems to me that they all share the same part number on the APR websites (just not 100% sure if the one used for the polo is the same used elsewhere but judging by the pics, they are either BG or KKK). Does anybody know or have gone down this route and am sure these kits fit? If so, I'm definatey getting one myself. ALso, will only require APR tune and 4 bar fuel pressure regulator if using APR tune.

Usually with these 1.8T upgrade kits, they don't include manifold or exhaust. Neither does APR in Aust. for the $3000 upgrade. Not sure if the manifold with the 034 kit would be an exact fit or would require some modding etc.

This kit makes solid gains in both horsepower and torque. With no other mods than an APR Turbo-Back Exhaust, the kit made 180kw/388Nm on 98 RON fuel. Although the exhaust is not required, it is highly recommended.

                              Loving that lol.
