Idle Speed adustment

Hi,
Can someone tell me if the Idle on my Polo GTI is easlily ajustable (via vag com?) and if this should be a dealer availble thing? I have asked one dealer to do it and they stated they were unable (maybe worried about emissions?) but would a good VW workshop/tuning shop know how?

Can I ask why you need it adjusted?? Mine idles just below 700RPM...

Two reasons, I have the APR engine mount which adds some vibration at idle, and idling at ~900rpm means the car doesnt vibrate. Second I find that there is a slight flatspot at idle which I find (pedantically) annoying (worse when cold). It means that I have to delay releasing my clutch which is very much either on or off until the engine gets some spin on it. I feel that experimenting with an idle of ~900 might solve both these issues. Mine idles at 750prm now. Both issues are just me being pedantic, but I want the response of the car at idle to be like my old one where there was no delay from pedal to respose, thus I dont need to load up right before the lights change for normal takeoffs or take that extra time to get the engine spinning a bit before engaging the clutch.

I'm not sure, I never used... in one ocasion a friend tested in my car and the Idle tune worked.

Like you have said, you are being very pedantic. I have the APR Torque Arm Bush, but I have never really noticed the vibration. The cold start idle is always going to be higher on any car. The delay you are talking about would be to do with the car being Throttle By Wire, and not having an actual throttle cable, and nothing to do with what speed the engine idles at.

Have you tried googling or go to Rosstech for help? I think your quest for higher idle is justifiable. For me I would do the same when I have the air conditioning on - as this makes the vibration worse as idle drops even further. Mine sits on 750rpm.

You want Lemmiwinks or Custom Settings. Very easy to use with the OBDII cable. 10rpm increments. There is a lot of other settings, don't mess with them unless you. Read up first.

From memory the APR software does not work with our cars.

Thanks Noone, I read your thread... I was wondering more if others can do it, (I dont have a cable and like the idea of a dealer/tuning shop doing it) I wouldn't have thought it would be out of their reach? But I wanted to check, that way I can ring up and say for sure I know it can be done :-P

I have heard some people say they get no vibrations and others saying they get lots, I have been lucky, I get it when the car is cold, its not a higher idle speed that causes it, as when its really cold and idling higher it doesnt vibrate, it is also not the 45 seconds of variable valve timing in the morning that does it. I get vibrations from the mount, I have no doubt. It was obvious as soon as I had it installed and really I don't mind except for the fact that if I can change it (idle) I would like to. Once the car is warm and idling normally (on a long drive or on a hotter day) it doesnt do it until the AC comes on, and again it drags the RPM down. as for the flat spot, I can't argue that until I have tried a higher idle, but if at the cost of 200rpm or less I can get a smoother idle and easier starts, then I like to be pedantic and get it fixed. Some are happy to put up, some are lucky and have no troubles, and others like to tinker/adjust until they are happy, and have no troubles left!
