Intercooler Air Flow

lol. Ok hear is the real question. Whats the easiest way of measuring the intercooler air temperature. DO i have to measure before and after intercooler air temps. or would the external intercooler temp be enough. As the purpose of the mod is to stop heat soak and create better air flow around the IC. Anyone.

Yeah but flaps at $2500 its not high on my priority list and even if it were $1000 it still wouldnt. I was just wondering if this would allow a little more efficient cooling using the stock cooler. That way my limited resources can be focused else where.

shane, i think Ash paid way under the $2k mark fitted for his one on his black polo. possibly dont quote me $1650 mark? he did the 137+ mark with chip/exhaust/fmic.

and the tt vent mod is definately worthwhile, its definately noticable in traffic more then anything.

in my opinion it would be enough to measure just the surface temperature at the intercooler and to buy from "Jay car" and build (or find somebody with soldering skills) KC5376.
Which is temperature monitor with the display able to measure to 1000 C and it has relay to switch water spray to cool down intercooler further. At JAY CAR shop they have a lot of car kits you can buy and modify your car. But be careful what you connect and where to modern car today. There is no cutting and splicing wires where ever you like since many circuits today use can bus networking betveen components and you can make your car running worst.

I've bought that KC5376 but didn't get time to connect it. I intent to use it for monitoring exhaust gas temperature.

MRL T5, thanks very much for that. I was looking at that but didnt realise what temp it went up to. I have done a few of these kits before so i could do it myself. Will see if i can get access to vag-com first up here as i have been told that it can also tell me after intercooler air temp.

Vag-com will tell you intercooler temperature in measuring block, however you want be able to switch water cooler ON with it.
For every 4 deg. C hoter air the engine is losing 1kw of power.

Yeah atm i just want to see if the mod makes a difference to cooler temps and there surround. Havent given it much consideration putting a water sprayer on but now that you mention it ill look into it and add it to my long list. Thanks for the info once again.

Hey Kai, funny you say that (if you break it). Forge make an upgraded side mount intercooler for the 1.8T (see url), wonder if it would fit or is better than stock Polo side mount? Could be cheaper option and less involved than a FMIC.

Probably won't be able to feel a difference HP wise, as it won't increase the HP enough for you too feel it. It should how ever prevent heat soak as air can now escape as it's been through the intercooler, so your car will produce good horsepower for longer Perfect for those spirited drives or track days!
