  • What Now?

    Hey Guys,

I've got a 2008 Polo GTI as some of you already know; my problem today is I'm feeling 'bored' with the car and want to know what mod to do next to rediscover some of the love

    So far my car has:
    APR V2 Flash
    Forge FMIC
Lower Grill Cutout to show off FMIC
    Pod Filter
    APR Dog Bone Mount
Triple Gauge Pod with Indigo Volt, Oil Pres and Boost

    Here is a photo:

    Sooo..... What next?

    Easy.

Coilovers or airbag and big turbo.

If you want to play, why not have a go at the N249, N112, SAI, VAC removal. Maybe have a play with a MBC. If you are feeling like a hastle for minimal returns, the Forge TIP has made many of us curse why we thought we were capable of getting it on.

No exterior mods? How about a Lip on the front and some of the trim colour coded (like it should have been).

        if you want power...
        audi S2 spark plugs
        Forge 007 DV
Milltek or bleuflame exhaust (better with sportcat or you will have emission light warning)
audi TT 225/ leon Cupra injectors
4bar FPR (can use the one from TT/Cupra)
        K04-001 (+-250Hp) or even better K03s hybrid turbo (300Hp)

ps: get another IC, Forge is tested and it's far from the best to install on youre car.
it's even worse than the stock one because it has flow problems.
only thing it does is elliminate heatsoak.
+ it's to small for getting something bigger as stock turbo.

do all this and the fun and joy will come back again, and you will have torque enough.
you can also get it tuned to 500Hp but that won't make it more fun.
you will get used to any power you get in it

@Jmac: removing those valves will give slightly better gas response and more DV noise. (don't expect a wonder to happen)
the earlier 1.8T don't have those, it's put in for emission reasons in the later 1.8T's, so basicly useless for us.
but you must let it program out while mapping it or disconnect it and let the valves in place for not having the engine light warning on the dash.
or, remove it all and place resistors.

Depends how fast you want to go, or you could focus on getting it to handle and stop

          Swaybars
          Coilovers
          Control arm bushes
          Strut brace
          Wheels with sticky rubber

Audi TT 312mm brake upgrade, if not, braided lines, good fluid and pads

Guess you get to a point were mods to the engine wont give great gains now, unless you go bigger turbo which is $$

true and verry importend as VWthunder mensioned.
            brakes and suspension!
TT brakes and callipers, Dot 5.1 fluid, Ferrodo DS2500 pads, braided lines and you will go faster from 100-0mph as from 0-60mph :-p

perhaps before spending more money on bits and pieces without a known return, do a track day or two to know how the car performs, strengths and weaknesses, then spend some money on making it better, faster or in feel. Depends on what flaots your boat though.

Its not mate, thats why i said "If you want to play".

Having done the TT brake upgrade, I think some good rotors and Pads would be a good move, the extra unprung weight of the bigger rotors is considerable.

How much heavier are the rotor/pad combo after the upgrade ? You realise there are negatives to increasing unsprung weight ? At least that is what I always believed and we always worked to reduce unsprung weight when racing many years ago.

I am partial to some suspension mods, however power is my true love

I've been thinking about a k04 on and off, but they seem to get pretty lackluster reviews, and a Big Turbo setup in a FWD seems rather pointless too; so I feel like I've reached the power limits (maybe a bit extra to be gained from exhaust).

Although I like the idea of a brake upgrade, its probably quite unwarranted as I don't plan on tracking the car anytime soon.

A nice set of wheels + suspension, and an exhaust systems seems to be the way I'll go. I wouldn't mind a EBC and a turbo timer either.

Living in Ferntree Gully you need to work on getting it to handle well, those roads are so fun. I love going on a run to the lookout

A EBC how much boost does it peak at (PSI) ?

The idea is you can dial that in.

I don't know how easy a good EBC would be to couple with the stock ECU, worth having a look or Vortex.

MBC is not really a good option to hold peak boost as boost ends up being on/off which is uncomfortable to drive with and prob not the greatest coupled with the ECU trying to regulate. I like having my MBC set to hold low PSI as I'm not trying to spike higher PSI, but have it come on stronger (and if definately does).

As for the Brake upgrade, I would think each of my rotors weighs around 10kg. I have not weighed it and was amazed when i picked them up how heavy they were. I'm sure different brands / designs have more / less weight, I'm just using cheap rotors.
