  • does the Polo GTI use an ODBII interface?

as the question says, does it use an OBDII interface? i've seen the port under dash near the steering column but i am not familiar with the pin layout (not a very geeky fellow in car interfaces).

    ???

    OBD 2 I believe yes.
    06 Polo GTI - REVO Stage 2 = 140kw @ wheels.
06 Golf GTI - Bluefin Stage 1 blacked out with ED30 theme, leather, xenon, etc.

Whats your plan? You can get a OBDII To Serial (D9) cable from Ebay UK for about $30...

        This -> Carman

since it's built on something called Python, it is a lot easier to hack but it will depend on what the OBD2 plug-in module exposes.

there are a few devices that reportedly work with carman (this one does -> DealExtreme: $53.99 ELM327 Bluetooth OBD-II Wireless Transceiver Dongle).

Hey fellas I was wondering if we have the obd2 port? I'm thinking of getting a canobd2 device which scans for errors etc... E.g Welcome to CanOBD2!

I guess before I purchase, would this be okay to use with the 9n3 gti's? Cheers

Be aware, I don't think you can get boost from these controllers as the ECU does not have a boost pressure sensor. My understanding is that with our cars, Boost is calculated from some other data.

Pog, make sure it can clear codes as well as scan them, otherwise you'd end up with something that can only really do what a $30 cable and a lappy can do...

Thanks noone. I'll check it out. Is ours a 14 or 16 pin cable?

Is there any difference between the ebay uk ones and the ones on Aussie ebay from hong kong?

                  eg:

USB VAG-COM OBD II KKL 409.1 Diagnostic Cable Interface - eBay Diagnostic Tools, Tools, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 09-Oct-10 22:42:53 AEDST)

p.s. not being a tight arse between a $15 or $30 cable, just confused by the number of different cables!

Noone, how much was your cable and the program you use to diagnose issues related to the car? And can you clear codes with yours?

                      Software is free.

Cable cost me $30 from UK from memory.

I can scan, log, but not clear codes. I have only had 1 or 2 come up, disconnect the battery for a while has always remedied my codes.

Do any of the VWs or any other cars in oz as a matter of fact even use the CAN protocol or only OBD2? Just wondering as the OBD2 + CAN enabled scanners seem to be much more pricey.

OBD2 is on all cars after 02 guys. OBD means onboard diagnostics for those who dont know. Noone if you are getting codes mate have them checked simply erasing them isnt fixing them!!! They come up for a reason mate. There is up to 6 protocols used for the record. What are you looking at doing mate??? good scanners are dear for a reason. Part of my job is diagnostics mate and to do it right , well look at the majority of the market reqs 6 good scanner. I have around 10Ks worth of diagnostic gear and growing just as an idea, an its growing as the market changes. My tuning cables were over 10K!!! There is a good reason the stuff is dear. Go cheap and have a cheap result.

The 9n3 '05-on 1.8T GTI has a boost pressure sensor (called "thrust sensor" for some reason); this is one of the key elements in the Bosch ME7.5 ECU for turbocharged models. Took me abit of time to find it; but here it is:

I'm not sure how relevant it is to this discussion, but worth pointing out anyhow I think!

Does that mean that boost values taken from the ODB-II port are accurate? Hmm ...
