Polo GTI - Current Prices?

Hi There,

I'm in the market for a new car and am leaning towards a Polo GTI, though, have not yet taken one for a test drive (it seems to be my best option cost/performance wise).

What would be considered a reasonable Drive-away price to pay at present?

I'm looking at Candy White with no options, though possibly may consider the R Line 17 inch wheels depending on what they go for. I'm in Newcastle NSW if that makes a difference to prices.

I'll be upgrading (is it an upgrade?) from a 2000 Nissan SSS Pulsar (love this car but its starting to show its age) so would also be interested to hear peoples' opinions on pros/cons of the Polo over the SSS Pulsar as well.

Drive away prices for these lil' beauties appears to vary depending on location & Stealer deals. Usually anything from about $29k to $30k. And yes ... it is an upgrade from the Pulsar (for a start ... it's a VW and that means quality build). Having owned a number of Jap cars in the past I can honestly say none of them (even from new) has had the quality build I'm enjoying in the Polo. I'm not saying they're all crap ... just that the Dub is soooo much better quality and, for a very reasonable price, the lil' Polo GTI is a great lil' mover.

there is a thread on here where everyone posted what they got, when they got it and how much they paid, i cant find it at the moment though so maybe someone could link it for you. A lot of people picked the car up during that february runout where they got it on-road for $26990 (basically saved on stamp, dealer delivery and reg).

I bought mine about 2 months ago now and they were asking around $30,500. The breakdown went something like this (keep in mind this is rough so some of the figures wont be right)

car - $26,990
dealer delivery $1995
reg - $550
stamp duty - whatever it was (its a percentage, cant remember though)

I bought it red, with no options whatsoever. If i had wanted leather then i was looking around 32 drive away.

I did all my research, worked out what i wanted and walked into a dealer to make a deal then and there as long as they would meet my price requirements (based on research here). I ended up buying the car after an hour for $28k driveaway which seems around the same sort of price most others were paying. Some get slightly better deals, some slightly worse. Original purchasers were paying near 32 apparently.

If you are doing tradeins and finance, that does change the amount of wiggle room in the price so keep that in mind when negotiating. Also the VW insurance is quite a good deal too so ask the dealer about it while you are there.

As a point, if i had paid 30, i still would have thought it was an excellent buy for the money and would have been happy with that

Ahh yes R lines, glad someone has good taste like me Sadly when I was specing my GTI, the R lines were worth bout $3000 including rubber.

I asked the same question of the R-lines and was told by the dealer they are not an item kept in Aus (so if your car is already here forget it) and as Floody says, damn expensive.
The dealer (surprisingly) told me i was better off saving my $$$ and getting some aftermarket rims locally for much less.

Price paid in Mar (?) this year was 29 drive away which seems to be about the ballpark.

Yeah because if you buy the wheels with the car you would get any money out of the original wheels. So you are better off waiting till the car gets here, then sell the OEM wheels.

Another question - what are the current wait times for a Polo GTI, assume it depends on options selected etc...

purely depends on what options/colors you want. There is like a pool of cars all the dealers can get their hands on so its more about whether there is one with what you want currently floating around.

If not, then i think its anything up to a couple of months to allow for building/shipping etc.

They should be able to check on what is available there and then anyway so ask

I ordered mine in mid March, and will be waiting to get my hands on it hopefully end of July. But then I was very specific with my colour and options. I was told it had to be custom built. Most people seem to be luckier than me and had much shorter waiting period.

I bought mine on a tuesday arvo and picked it up 8 hours later lol - including the custom leather mine came to $31k drive away in sep '06...

i could have got r-lines on mine for an extra $1200 but i already spent more than i wanted to but it was worth it wish i had of got them if i knew thyere were worth close to $3k...

Paid $28K driveaway a month ago Black stock...depends on whether its a cash deal or a changeover. On a cash deal the Stealer can make money on the car/pre-delivery however if another car is involved I usually find the driveaway price will be better as they can also make money on the trade so thus lower the driveaway price. But its all relative really

MIne was 30500, no options in oct 06, straight off the yard with 11km on it... However, they gave me a generous trade on my previous car which helped me seal the deal.
