Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 17705/P1297/004759 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)

    Hello Forumers,

Re: 17705/P1297/004759 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)

Firstly, please be advised I have researched into this, (via various forums, Ross-Tech etc) and yet, as a peace of mind, would like to know if any PGTI owners have received this fault code upon check up on vag-com?

I've ordered a boost gauge and it should arrive tomorrow. I think having this would be handy in seeing if the car is boosting correctly. Afterall, the car doesn't miss a heart-beat upon acceleration so everything feels as it should. I understand this won't eliminate the fact there is a pressure drop, but at least I can start with something.

I'll be doing all the necessary checks regarding this faulty code, (check hoses, clamps tight) and the DV. Also, when I went to get my car tuned, I spoke with European Autotech and they advised that it would've probably been there when you first had the car delivered to you and it may be that it needs to be reset and then probably at a later stage it won't return. They also advised the APR R1 DV was installed correctly. Because the fault code says CHECK DV.!, if the DV has proved faulty, how will I know? I only bought this brand new 2 months ago.

All variables aside, having this fault code, will this affect the ECU management system? Or is it there just to advise you of a pressure drop?

So, I'm not looking for a fix/solution/answer/result here on the forum, but moreso, after experiences you have had with this fault code and what sort of results/experiences/best practices you've had in having this fault disappear. I'll look into it a step at a time and let you all know of any updates.

Many thanks and sorry for the long post.

Lets log the boost, then we will know more.

I've not seen this code before, but its worth the time to replace spring clips with Jubilee's and tighten all the connections.

      Response from the mechanic today:

The pipe which snugs over the turbo is in fact slipping off (slightly off and hence, boost leak evident) and this is probably due to me placing too much oil from the inside of the tip to have it slide over the turbo. Time to take it off and clean the inside of the pipe and make sure it's dry.

Hell, the car was boosting nice like that, hopefully it'll boost better now.

      Bunnings here I come!

      Thanks as well Ben!
