  • Whats quicker? APR Polo Gti or AFM SS VE?

I now have a AFM VE SS commodore 6spd man but used to own a Polo Gti with APR etc.. I sort of forgot how those little buggers go.

The SS has reasonable grunt but Im wondering which is quicker? Im talking about in gear grunt, rolling acceleration. 80-120km/h, 60-90km/h etc etc. Real world bursts of acceleration. I remember the Polo wasnt too shabby rolling start.

I have timed my VE SS at 80-120km/h 3.4 seconds and 60-90km/h in 2.1 seconds.

Not really sure if you can compare the 2.
They are so different (cost, drivetrain, number of cylinders, engine capacity, number of doors, weight, tyre widths) that any comparrison isn't really valid.

It's like comparing a bugatti veyron with an ariel atom.

VE SS will destroy the Polo in just about every way, with the exception of handling which I would put them at very similar levels of grip from the factory.

The Polo isn't all that quick. ~152kw in ~1200kg is no better than a standard S15 200sx, Astra Turbo, MY99 WRX etc. And of course, once you start modding those other turbo cars with tunes etc. then you see some big power (S15's will do ~190rwkw on the stock turbo with minor bolt on mods) that really does eclipse the little Polo.

Really, you need to compare the Polo to the smaller hot hatches like the XR4, Ralliart Colt, Clio Sport and 206 GTi to really see where it's strengths are. It is by far and away the best all rounder from that segment.
Previous Rides: Polo GTI, Mx5 10AE, MY05 WRX WRP10, Renault Sport Clio 172
Current Ride: Evo 8 MR, Fabia MK3

I thought AFM was only on the auto V8s.

What happened to the Boss Hulk?

You should've bought an FG XR6T. (or a BF F6 Typhoon, or even a MY09 wrx - 12 sec 1/4 from the showroom).

In answer to the question, what Break said.

Has Hulk managed to get any Bunnings taps for his Commodore ? Maybe some cut springs ? Chev badge would be the thing to add as well, bit like the 1.8T badge added to a Polo GTI

Don't forget the southern cross sticker on the back, and probably Jetpilot or similar bogan brand sticker across the back window. And maybe 'interceptors' on the back.

Rolling 80-120km/h is a relevant figure which can often be compared regardless of configuration.

My money is that my polo will destroy common SS V8s, and also some HSVs (auto). That's 80-120km over take time. I believe well tuned Polo GTIs making around 140kw + at wheels will be able to 80-120km/h around 3 sec bang on. This is on dry with no wheel spin.

My car with REVO Stage 2 - I believe should produce close to 145kw or over at wheels.

New HSV on automatic had 3.2 sec in NZ Autocar magazine - and I think Petrina your 3.2 probably is slightly optimistic. Obviously magazine measurements will be different, pending on location, angle of road, temperature, height, etc etc.

Golf R does about 3.4-3.5 sec from my memory, and I believe well tuned Polo GTI will be faster from 80-120km/h.
                            06 Polo GTI - REVO Stage 2 = 140kw @ wheels.
06 Golf GTI - Bluefin Stage 1 blacked out with ED30 theme, leather, xenon, etc.

Hahaha, the SS by a considerable margin.

You might catch the SS out on reaction time and just about nothing else.
