  • Hidden trip computer functions

On some cars there are ways of showing extra hidden modes in trip computers. My friends 97 A4 can do it on his climate control readout. Does anyone know if it's possible to do this on the Polo GTI?

The thing i'm really interested in is getting some sort of digital speed readout as I find the speedo markings on the Polo to be a bit annoying to read (especially with the change above 80km/h. Not great when you live in Vic with a 3% margin for error on speed detection).

    Thanks.

If you press the button on the end of the right hand (wiper) stalk, the fuel usage display will cycle thru various readouts, I think one of them is speed.

It cycles between time, temp, instant L/100k, distance travelled, average L/100k, distance to empty and elapsed driving time since last reset, from memory. No speed display so far as I am aware

Yep me to. The button Under the Stalk also changes the display. Try that

                    On mine you do.

                    You get the option of:

                    a) Clock (default, shows when Ignition off)
                    b) Distance to Empty
                    c) Instantaneous L/100km (changes to L/hr when stationary)
                    d) Average L/100km (reset button to toggle between trip and 'lifetime' values)
                    e) Trip Meter (reset button to toggle between trip and 'lifetime' values)
                    f) External Temperature
                    g) Elapsed Driving Time (reset button to toggle between trip and 'lifetime' values)
                    h) Average Speed in KM/H (I think the reset button toggles between trip and 'lifetime' values. Will hit it to see if I can get an instantaneous readout.

I'd happily swap the instantaneous L/100km for a speed readout. I was travelling down Mona Vale Road, in the 90 zone that heads past the Belrose Industrial Park). Saw a cop toting a Multinova....oh boy, those 90 zones are harrowing! I ended up dropping down to 80 just "to be safe".

I stand corrected -- it is the average speed since the last reset

You can change 'some' functions with VAG-COM, I am not sure what they are on the Polo though...

You'll find 90km/h is actually the 100km/h marking. The speedo in Polo's is very dodgy.

I calculate it by putting the cruise on the speed I want, (ie 100km/h)

then hold down the reset button to reset the average speed, the first reading you get is the actual km/h
